Itaewon Class & The Geun-Soo Problem
As much as I’ve enjoyed Itaewon Class, there are a few things that I’m not at all happy with after finishing the recent episodes. I understand that it’s following the web drama which I have not seen but...
1. Geun-Soo’s abrupt character change: Geun-Soo was a sweet and soft boy. He joined Dan Bam because being there offered him friendship and family; the opposite of what he had with his actual family. I know he joined Jangga so he could “get the girl” but there’s no way his personality would do a big enough 360 that he’d out his friend in the press which is the most f**ked up thing a person can do, and also be cool with destroying Dan Bam. He’d have to be a totally different person to do this.
2. The best content is being overshadowed by the revenge plot: I love all of the characters at Dan Bam. They are quirky and interesting, and my favorite episode was when they were working together to build Dan Bam. Admit it, it was your favorite episode too! That time is long gone and the character development has completely taken a back seat to scenes with the the Jangga Chairperson and him being rude and crappy to people, investor scams, meetings with shareholders, etc.
I wish revenge wasn’t the endgame of this show. I want Dan Bam to do great of course, but I also wish Sae-Ro-Yi would realize that healing and living with people who care about you is WAY more important that being number 1. (I’m still hoping he realizes this and the show changes focus :-). I mean look at the dude who is number one? He has the most empty life!
I’m so mad and confused by #1 the most. They did a terrible job making me understand how his personality could change like that in 1 second.
Thanks for letting me vent!
