The designation as a "bonus episode" is generous given that it doesn't really add much to the show. However, there are some parallels to upcoming storylines, which are vaguely interesting.
Specific notes:
The beginning of this episode parallels 2x01 so much. We delayed watching the season 2 premiere, but in watching this episode, we still got a brain dead girl/woman whose family decided to pull the plug but wakes up saying a seemingly random phrase in another language.
Also, we get our first introduction to the concept of souls of the recent dead lingering for a potential transfer like William Bell later.
Interesting thing to think about: The way Olivia keeps pushing for the girl to submit to Walter's tests is very much reminiscent of what amber!Olivia opposes in episode 4x10 "Forced Perspective". It's probably because this Olivia doesn't remember being experimented on. I wonder how amber!Olivia would have handled it.
The ending is another open thread that's never followed up on. I hope the wife stays safe.
Science notes: How does one measure a psychic response? It's certainly not via EEG. Also something an EEG doesn't measure: consciousness (same note as John Scott arc).
