There are flashbacks in the first episode that take us back to the immediate aftermath of the events in the finale which is one of the reasons why I had to shave my beard so I can match with 5x23, and the other reason was because it was disgusting. There are no flashbacks on the second episode

If you remember back in S2, after the events of S1, Oliver actually retreats to the island, and I know that at that time, Greg Berlanti always pitch it as kind of Oliver’s “Fortress of Solitude” and for that perspective it was a nice mental break for me, or the character rather, so I am sad to see it go but I thought that destroying the Island was, like a lot of people say, full circle, so probably was time.

Sometimes as an actor you have to be thick skinned and realize that there are a whole bunch of things going on that may or may not enable your producers to do certain things with your character so they concentrate in other characters and sometimes they are not allowed to involve your character which I found out from Marc Guggenheim that basically they have to hold on Deathstroke because of the potential on being used in the movie world, you know, it was going to be used in the Batman movie or what not…and since there has been an issue with that production, they got the opportunity to bring Deathstroke back. You know, it’s a very popular character and the fans out there wanted his return for along time
