Adored this. This is exactly why 2006’s arc was my favorite, outside of 2001.
Personally, I think 2006 beats 2001. 2001′s real success was in providing a very fresh start with unusual iconography that provided fertile territory for future story. The story itself was actually pretty light. The book for that year didn’t even arrive until 2003. The comics were just short character pieces, really, and though lovely (I’m particularly fond of the second), they hardly constitute an arc. 2001′s one story success really was the Mata Nui Online Game. And yeah, it’s a pretty brilliant way to create a world. But to me, that’s just the first step, eventually creating a world that can tell stories as fascinating as Bionicle did in 2006.
