“occital bone to the back”
a quantative study to measure the association between spinal alignment, cranial orientation and positive self regard in back pain outcomes for the socially ostracized (read marginalized populations)
I have a revelation as I went on my afternoon stroll. I’ve developed a terrible habit of cowering and inhabiting an “intimidated” spinal posture: head and neck lowered, gaze averted, a roundedness in my shoulders and stiffness in my back. As I’ve been exploring mindful habits around building a healthier spiritual relationship to myself, I noticed myself in this posture as I crossed the street and yelled to myself “occital bone to the back!”. A nod to my days studying anatomy to enter the medical profession, I recalled the occital bone being located within the southern most region of the back of my head and facing skyward when I entered this posture with my head lowered. “Occital bone to the back” is the reset button that my mind pressed to alert me of the somatic relationship between mind and body (this phrasing feels partially off)
