I know I haven't been been active here for a long time but I'm making use of any way to spread awareness of this that I can.

I have a Palestinian friend and colleague called Nour who immigrated to Belgium several years ago but a lot of her family still lives there, including her sister. The two of them have always had a big heart for cats and have cared for and adopted many of them over the years. (She even went through all the trouble and costs to bring some of her cats with her and they are absolute sweethearts ❤)

One of the cats her sister is currently looking after, Simba, started having seizures last year and got diagnosed with epilepsy.

Not about to give up on her, they made sure she got the meds she needed until she started developing different symptoms, most likely in reaction to the medications. This all culminated in a very bad, hours-long seizure just recently.

My friend and her sister tried to get Simba the help she needed, even sending her on her own to get treatment in Jerusalem (since my friend's sister wasn’t allowed entry being Palestinian)

Initially the vet thought Simba would have to be put down except then what seemed like a miracle presented itself. During the treatment, particularly a blood transfusion since she had lost a lot of blood, she suddenly started improving a lot. Due to this the vet is now pretty convinced her seizures and other symptoms were caused by an infection rather than epilepsy. Now Simba needs an 8-week antibiotics treatment but the whole ordeal has essentially drained all of my friend her spare funds since so far the whole treatment and Simba's stay in the ICU has already totalled up to 8k.

She has started a GoFundMe campaign to try and fund Simba's vet bills and further treatment so if you are able to either donate even just a little or even just share this post and help spread awareness of Simba's struggles, me and my friend and her sister would really appreciate it. ❤ 💙 💜

So he had a seizure last night around... 10? It was right when I called the pet hospital to see how he was doing. But they called Jay this morning and he hasn't seized again since. They got him loaded up with phenobarbital and are weaning him off of the sedative to see how he does. If he seizes again they'll give him another big dose. We're supposed to hear more about the plan this afternoon.

I am so ready for this little guy to be home and for things to go back to normal for him. He's been through so much.

Today is Apollo’s birthday!! My little man is three years old today!! I’ve known Apollo since the day he was born. He’s been a ham from day one. A very loud ham - the second I met him all he did was scream in his little squeaky voice. My baby boy’s little life hasn’t been easy. He’s epileptic - he had his first seizure at six months old, he has allergies, and he wasn’t as developmentally advanced as his two sisters. His mother’s owner did not treat any of them well and his mother was very, very sick when she was pregnant. Despite these issues - or maybe because of them - Apollo is the sweetest little boy. Everything is The Best Ever and he only really experiences happiness and sleepiness. I’m so glad to have him in my life, because every second he’s around, I am reminded that there is someone who loves me with his entire being. I love you, little man. Happy birthday.
