Eddie’s Wrist Watch in 503

Can we talk about the fact that eddie’s watch in 503 during the locker room and breakup scenes feels symbolic af???

A few interesting points relevant to the watch as a symbol:

In 414 buck is begging eddie to stay with him and telling the drivers to hurry up and saying to eddie that they’re “so close” and they’re “minutes away”. Time was of the essence for obvious reasons in the scenario, but it also read to me as subtext. Saying, we know this is a slow burn but hang in there (viewers) bc we got you.

In 502 buck ends his conversation with eddie by saying that it’s not like they’re “going home anytime soon”. Again including time is a factor and reminding us the audience that this is in fact a slow burn.

In 503 eddie is putting on his watch in the locker room while he basically tells buck that he’s going to breakup with ana. It’s time to follow his heart. it’s time to end that relationship.

Sorry for the delay. Here’s my main point with all this:

The watch in both the locker room and breakup scenes is connected to buck. I think it represents him a little bit and eddie is carrying buck into the breakup. He carries his words from the talk in 502 and the sense of urgency that buck instilled in him about it. That’s why THE WATCH IS THE SAME COLOR AS BUCK’S SHIRT from the locker room scene!!!

And during the breakup, what does eddie do? He crosses his arms over his chest and closes off from a*a. THE WATCH (BUCK) IS OVER EDDIE’S HEART!!! A*a figuratively tries to reach his heart but is blocked/shut out, by eddie himself and by buck too really. Buck is who it’s time for eddie to be with, not a*a and the watch is a tiny indicator of that in the visual narrative of the breakup.

I was rewatching the ep today, noticed/hallucinated all of this, and almost expired. Bye y’all. Seriously I just -

Corrective Emotional Experience FTW (Yes this is about Buddie)

I legit think that when their shift ended and eddie basically told buck that he was going to break up with a*a, ✨that moment was a corrective emotional experience for buck✨ bc someone he loves (romantically) did right by him.

I think that the 502 line “eddie I have been ana” was ringing through BOTH their minds in that moment, and in the most fascinating narrative contortion I’ve seen in a while eddie doing right by a*a in the end feels corrective of buck’s experience with abby. eddie chose to be better than abby in the end AND by breaking up with a*a eddie frees himself up to be with buck. To follow his own heart (thanks carla abd buck).

In that SINGLE moment leading up to the long-awaited break up eddie made like FIVE meaningful life choices:

He chose his own heart, battered but still beating.

He chose to accept the love and support of two people who deeply care about him (buck and carla) especially when he forgets to care about himself.

He chose better modeling of self-love/self-respect and compassion for others (a*a) for christopher.

He chose buck’s healing from past romantic relationship wounds (i.e., abby not being all in and stringing buck’s heart along). essentially saying i love and respect you (buck) enough to not be THAT girl.

He chose a*a’s freedom which was compassionate (if way frickin’ late) and necessary if he wanted to continue to be the good guy that buck chris and carla know he is.

Eddie is growing and healing y’all, and it’s SPECTACULAR!! I just -

The Long-Awaited Break Up

The emotion of The Break Up Scene was hilariously disproportionate to what we’ve actually seen on screen when it comes to the eddiea*a relationship arc.

That’s because eddie was not only breaking up with a*a the person, but also the IDEA of her. A*a represented a picture-perfect, socially expected heteronormative family life. We all know eddie’s emerging feelings for buck don’t quite fit that particular narrative. So eddie was doing the hard work of breaking up with the heteronormative, ready-made family expectation that a*a represented. And that was actually difficult for him in a way and especially for her, even if it really really really had to be done. He didn’t want to hurt a*a the person but he was focused and determined in that break up scene thanks to the 502 talk with buck.

Also, with the break up complete, eddie can’t keep hiding from the feelings for buck that powered the a*a break up. Now there’s no buffer and they are going to show themselves over the course of the season. That’s part of why eddie waited so long to break up. He was verbally pinning it on christopher’s happiness but deep down it was at least as much about fighting his own queerness, if not more.

This is my theory anyway. Who knows. I hope we get buddie soon y’all bc dang.

Everything Else in 911 503

I was real focused on buddie content in 503 obvi so I made it through the ep but i KNOW i’m not the only one who had like 80 wtaf moments while watching it.

The whole hudson kidnapping harry storyline was poorly done.

Athena felt…super OOC with every decision she made in the search, she left Bobby out of the bulk of it, Michael totally yeeted David, Michael’s grief and fear felt more like a temper tantrum than an adult reaction to a crime in progress, the police captain was just a prop, we barely saw May looking truly worried for her brother, Harry deserved a better way to get his own storyline, the Karen/Judy praise for doing with Harry’s prompting what she should have known to do herself (it’s 2021!) was infuriating, Judy didn’t even call it in she just uploaded a fucking tiktok or some shit which took hours. The whole main storyline felt like copaganda and torture porn and i hated it. Also, i know maddie is struggling through ppd and also they could have chosen literally any other way for that to manifest.

I really deeply disliked 503 as a whole. Nicely put it was garbage. Buddie was my lifeline bc I almost turned it off to make a soothing cup of eff this!
