@eplabita sportacus is arnold’s real dad and u can fight me on this
father’s day. definitely not a day arnold liked very much. it wasn’t that he hated his father, he didn’t have a hateful bone in his body! now that he actually thought about it, did his father really deserve to be celebrated? ever since he was younger, his father seemed incredibly disinterested in anything that had to do with arnold. his mother was the only one to go to his first play. ( every single show! ) it was not the time to be thinking of this, however.
with the time he’d spent in iceland, his mindset had begun to change. of course, the change didn’t have too much to do with his father -- he still remained negligent and uncaring, openly talking about other kids his age and how much better children they were. no, this was strictly because of the man that had taken him under his wing. sportacus was more supportive than he’s ever seen his father be. the first person to really believe that his disability didn’t define what he could or couldn’t do with his life. ( this had surprised him )
if he could have chosen anyone to be his father, it would have been him. that was why he had spent the better half of two days working on a secret project, making sure sportacus had no idea what was going on. he wasn’t all that adept with tools, so he kept it simple. ( stephanie and ziggy helped him a little with the card ) even though his father often told him he didn’t have a talent for art, he put some of his art on the inside of the card. maybe sportacus would appreciate it more? along with the card, was a box, with a brooch of a golden apple. he had seen it in one of the markets, and couldn’t stop thinking about it.
❝ i-i know you’re not technically a father, o-or my father, or y’know, uh - a dad, but i think that you are one. i m-mean like spiritually and stuff! ❞ for a split second, he was ready to be yelled at, or told that what he had made was childish. of course, that almost immediately went away when he realized that sportacus wasn’t like that. ❝ s-stephanie, ziggy and i worked on the card! we uh - wanted to make it really nice. and uhh - i got you this. ❞ holding the box and the card forward, he couldn’t help but think that maybe father’s day wasn’t so bad.
