honestly speaking, joohyuk really did intend to study in the library. it was a bit too early in the term, definitely, but he knows he needs as much of an early start he could get. he wasn’t dumb-- joohyuk’s humble enough to say that, but he wasn’t particularly driven, either. it’s the reason he’s forced himself to sit in the library, book opened in front of him, as he tried to absorb whatever it was that he was reading.
it was difficult-- he’s torn between reading and listening in on the loud group of third year gryffindors. he decides that, no, for once, his grades are much more important than whatever inane chatter those third-years were having. so, with a heavy breath, he takes his books and stands up, looking for a more secluded spot, away from groups of people.
it’s only by chance that he catches sight of one particularly secluded table, holed up in a corner of the library. it was quite possibly the most ideal spot to be, with no other tables nearby, as well as the lack of chatty groups. joohyuk catches sight of the woman occupying the table a little bit too late, and he thinks twice about looking for another spot. but-- it was just one person, right? surely, joohyuk won’t get distracted.
with resolve, he takes the chair a few spots away from where the girl was. from her robes, he could make out the fact that she was a ravenclaw, and from the looks of it, a headgirl. he tries to ignore the other girl for a few moments, trying to convince himself that he was actually reading-- but upon the fifth time he’s read the same sentence, and about the ninth time he’s sneaked glances to the girl, he decides that he literally has no ability to let sleeping dogs lie.
with that, he takes in a deep breath, before pasting on a smile. “hey there,” he greets, cordial and welcoming, but still low enough so as not to be heard by the librarian, “do you think you could help me out with something?” he asks, the lilt of his voice just enough to convey distress. it’s one of joohyuk’s most preferred methods of striking up conversation-- pretend as if he needed help. “i’ve-- i mean, i’ve kind of been reading the same paragraph for a while now, and i still don’t get any of it,” he says, adopting a meek expression.
