“Women still earned only 77 cents for every dollar that men earned in 2012, according to new data from the U.S. Census Bureau,” mentioned in an article on Huffington Post. Even at the present time, women’s salary is still significantly less than what men earn. There have been slight changes in the workplace since the past, but salary hasn’t been one of them. The statistics shown in this article depict that women in the same career of equal stature to their male coworkers still receive lower earnings. In a chapter of a journal called “Academic Women’s Salaries: Equal Pay for Equal Work,” the author talked about how these “discriminatory practices” need to be eliminated. This issue has been going on ever since jobs were established. If a woman does the same amount of work for a job, that man will still get paid a higher amount than the woman. What is the difference between two individuals who share the same qualifications in the same career? It all comes down to just their gender. Not only does it not make sense for someone to be paid differently simply because of gender, but it is also an unfair act of inequality. It is an issue that still oppresses women of today’s population.
