A New Organic Coffee Roaster Comes to Town!
Taking over the space that had once been a spice shop at Sonoma’s Marketplace shopping center, Equator Coffees is eagerly preparing to officially open on Oct. 31.
Founded in 1995 in the Bay Area by Helen Russell and Brooke McDonnell, they helped pioneer the direct trade model, becoming an early adopter of Fair Trade certification in 1999.
Equator became the first Certified B Corporation coffee roaster in California, marking a significant milestone in its commitment to blending quality with positive social and environmental impact.
Over the past three decades, Equator has evolved from a humble locally-based roasting operation into a recognized leader in the coffee industry with award-winning coffees.
As it has grown, Equator at its heart, has never wavered on what matters: exceptional coffee, sourced with care and shared with intention.
With some stats estimated at 75 percent or more of coffee drinkers in the United States alone, some statistics surmise that there are at least over 135 thousand coffee drinkers in Sonoma County.
Even though there are at least nine coffee spots in town, not counting Starbucks and Peet’s, with so many coffee drinkers in Somoma, there’s still enough room for more competition.
The demand for organic and responsibly sourced goods has steadily increased since 2000. According to Servant Financial, Food Dive and the USDA publications, this isn’t a fad. Organic and responsibly produced/sourced foods, such as organic coffee is here to stay.
With a menu of Expresso Roast, Velvet Mocha, Hint of Vanilla, just to name a few, Equator Coffee has something for everyone.
Reviews of Equator Coffees on social media such as Yelp, TripAdvisor, etc., have praised the quality of its coffee; pointing out the rich, smooth flavor and the high quality of food offered at various locations.
“We will be serving sandwiches, bagels and food,” said Monica Stahl, Retail District Manager. She and dozens of crew and staff were busy getting things ready for the Friday Oct 31 grand opening.
