Obviously still going to have to work on writing the actual fic, but here’s a rundown post of all the OCs I’ve created so far for my ER universe OC fanfic
Nick Phillips: The main OC, a ER a doctor at County General who works with the main characters from the show. He is intelligent and thoughtful and a little nerdy. In his off hours he loves wearing button shirts with all the crazy patterns you’d associate with the 90s.
Amira Goodwin (eventually Phillips): At the start of the series she is Nick’s girlfriend, but he proposes to her soon after and they eventually marry. Her biological father is African American and her biological mother is Indian with probable British ancestry as well, as she is the person who Amira takes her surname from. Her day job is working as a veterinarian and she also practices Bollywood dancing as a hobby. In the first “episode” she is bought into County General suffering from a severe case of meningitis.
Aisha Goodwin: Amira’s mother/Nick’s eventual mother-in-law. She has a good relationship with her daughter although when Amira was very young she did not live with her mother due to interference by an abusive biological father.
*Unnamed OC Amira’s biological father: Initially likely a very good man, he soon found “Jesus” and became a prominent African American televangelist who is widely known throughout Illinois. When he found religion he also decided to abhor anything that wasn’t godly enough including his biracial daughter whom he initially alienated from her mother and worked with his new wife to constantly berate for everything including the fact that her features weren’t “black enough” due to her naturally straight hair. At some point while at a conference in Chicago he suffers a heart attack and is bought into County General where he becomes the patient of Nick, whom he doesn’t know is his son-in-law. Nick is faced with the moral crisis of knowing he must treat the man, who put his wife through so many years of abuse, with the same standard of quality he would treat any other patient.
*Unnamed OC Amira’s stepmother: Just as vile as her husband while also using the pretense of godliness as a shield, this woman also worked to alienate and destroy her stepdaughter while also uplifting her own biological child. This culminated in Amira choosing to run away at thirteen to live with her mother in Chicago.
Laura_: Amira’s half-sister is quite fortunately a young woman with an intelligent head on her shoulders despite her parents attempts to prove otherwise. Throughout the years she has kept in touch with her half-sister although she pretends to be on the same side as her parents. Laura is with her father when he is bought into County General and immediately recognizes Nick as her brother-in-law although she does not reveal this information to her father. It is after a conversation with her that Nick realizes that providing the man with proper medical care is still the important thing to do, even if he hates him.
Kyle Phillips: Kyle’s mother, Nick’s aunt, was a flaky alcoholic and drug user who saw no problem in leaving her son with her sister so that she could go out and party. This all got so bad that when Kyle was four, Nick’s parents officially adopted him. Kyle is well on the way to taking just as dark of a path as his mother until the day he is involved in a DUI accident that causes him to be rushed to County General. Although Kyle survives it is not without suffering a paralyzing injury that means he will spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair. It is this injury that also manages to create perspective in his life. Eventually, Kyle turns himself around and begins to use his own injury as a cautionary tale for others who are following his same path.
Maureen Li: Maureen is a med-student who is assigned to Nick at some point during the third “season” of the story (each chapter will be episodic). Maureen is naturally someone who very outspokenly believes in countering injustice and redefining women’s roles in both work and sexuality. Initially, she has a crush on Nick, who is having his wedding band repaired during the point when they first meet, but assumes that the only reason he does not like her back is that he only dates Caucasian women, a belief that is naturally redefined when she meets Amira. This reactionary behavior is very typical of how Maureen acts in many situations throughout her earliest “episodes” although she eventually learns how to use her activism and strong personality in more constructive ways and later becomes an advocate for many vulnerable patients who would otherwise be too terrified to speak up about abuse and mistreatment they are receiving.
