"Not fucking happening," Levi said, staring in almost disbelief at the people he called parents. Father remained stoic, dressed in his best outfit. Mother shook her head and stood up, "watch your tongue. You don’t have a choice!" she said, her voice stern. "We’re losing money and soon we won’t be able to afford living here anymore," I wanted to scream. They had no clue what they were asking me, and it wouldn’t even work! The bastard who I was apparently being married off too would figure it out damn fast that I wasn’t a girl.
"It won’t work!" I said, trying to get the logic to go through her thick skull. She looked like she wanted to slap him, and Levi wouldn’t be all that surprised if she did. She let out a huff and grabbed Levi’s arm, dragging him into another room, the room was her wardrobe. "You will be a female, Levi. You are not going to ruin this for us." she said, shoving Levi into a chair as a maid pinned his hair back to start on his makeup. Levi squirmed but eventually gave up, he wasn’t going to get out of this.
"Your name will be Lara, you are mute and you will go through with this." Mother’s tone was sharp and final, and it left no room for argument. So Levi sat and let the maids bustle around him, a wig with long black hair to be done up in a bun at the back with strands of hair coming down to his chest on the front, where he was stuffed and a corset was put on to make his slim figure even more slim.
At the end of it all, Levi was glaring into a mirror, makeup caked all over his face, a wig that was sure to become itchy later, and a big red and white gown. He crossed his arms, trying to make the mirror break with just his glare.
"You look beautiful," his mother mused, "hurry along he’ll be here in a few moments." She disappeared out of the room and Levi was left only to follow. He carefully made his way out into the conference room where he would be meeting his fiance. He stared at the door that the other side of this arranged marriage would come through.
