Alchemists Apathy Special: Jolly
Now, normally these would come out on anniversaries of fangames. BUT, in light of the recent exposure of Weshek, this calls for celebration!!! I'm now in a very jolly mood (get it?) so why don't I talk about a very famous fangame series: Jolly.
I'm sure some people have heard of Jolly, unlike things like Frickbear's, Fredbear's Fright, and maybe Fazbear's Return. Jolly is known by a lot of people, mainly for that fourth game that's in development that could be canceled at anytime. Jolly is an interesting series to me as I felt like the story was investing, but not in the actual gameplay. The actual gameplay is not really that good.
Jolly 1, or just Jolly, released on October 4th of 2016. The game was released in the hype of Sister Location and even had a SL reference alongside a Fnaf reference. The game went for a blue aesthetic, with a lot of blue lighting and even the models being blue. This was made a canon design choice later on and the characters were called the "Fantasy Cast" part of a different generation of characters. We have of course, the main antagonist: Fantasy Jolly.
Honestly, I actually quite like the models of all the Jolly games. They are outdated yes, but they actually look pretty good for 2016 standards, which I guess the Fnaf community started to get some level of quality. Yes, he is based of Jollibee.
This is Fantasy George. He's not part of the Jollibee's team, most of the characters are outside of Jolly himself... and the Fnaf cast. Anyway, Fantasy George is fine. I like the Fantasy characters, they are all decent, but George is a bit of a standout. I like how he has shoes.
Next up is Fantasy Tweetie
She's a blue bird. I believe there is another a golden version of this character but she was never used. The main four characters look like they belong in a barbershop quartet. Tweetie has a similar build to Jolly, and they also all have faceplates. Because this was around the time of Sister Location. Meaning that some animatronics around the time were more sci-fi and had faceplates. For a few minutes after SL, I actually thought she was Funtime Chica.
This is the second to final one, Fantasy Maxie. Finally, someone isn't blue. She has color. Because of this, she is one of the more unique models... except I don't like her head. George had the better head. Though, I like the introduction of the whiskers. This is the main four animatronics, but we got two more characters. One is a Golden Freddy character.
The Metalionette is a Puppet like character trapped on wires. She's a very simple design, with a withered mask. She will come back for the third game but for right now, she's only in Jolly 1.
The final character of the game is Red Jolly, or Red Fantasy Jolly, or Red Fantasy Jolly Prototype.
This is basically the Golden Freddy of the game. He's also canon to the lore as a prototype but I don't think there is much with him, and with Jolly 4 up in the air, there's not much to talk about him right now, or maybe ever.
The main gameplay was pretty convoluted, there was the usual light and door, as well as a power recharge from a spare generator. You also had to keep the Metalionette on her wires the entire night while also sealing vents and toggling the elevator. You could also just... not do that. And shut the door when they show up, they might take longer to leave though. As for story, the game is set after Fazbear's Fright. Circus Baby's Pizza World has popped up and threatened animatronic entertainment, making Jolly make new animatronics to counter CBPW. This is why the animatronics look the way they do. A man named Mikhail Schmidt takes the job at the location during the night and is who you mainly play as. There are minigames during the game that let you play as Jolly going over to the Metalionette. One of the minigames implies a poisoning of many children, which will be brought up at a later date. Beating Max Mode awards you a newspaper where Jolly 1's location closes down after an incident where Jolly's faceplates tore the skin off of a kid, or crushed his skull, one of the two.
Jolly 1 is actually pretty good for the time, it even got a widescreen update later on. The game was really popular at the time, I for sure liked it. It was the first fangame I played coming back into the franchise. Eventually, a sequel was made. Jolly 2 was made and released on December 2nd, 2016. Hey, that's after Fnati's Birthday. Jolly 2 is not set in an establishment, it's set on a boat. Crazy world we live in. The game has a brand new cast of characters, with variants of Jolly and George named "Classic Jolly" and "Classic George".
Something about Jolly here, I love the Classic duo a lot. They are some of the best 2016 Fnaf fan models out there I'll be honest. I like the big eyes of Jolly, his smile, his gloves. His shoes. It's awesome. I love it.
Classic George is a very simple design. Similar to Classic Jolly, his simplicity just works for him. While a lot of characters will be redesigned for the AU, the Classic characters I think would just need very small changes instead of drastic ones like the others.
Now, I would say this is done, but we got more characters it's... FREDDY FAZBEAR?!?
Yeah, the Fazbear cast now makes their way to the game. Fnaf is canon in this universe, I always liked when people tried to tie their games back into the Fnaf lore. Such a fun concept that many people don't explore anymore. I am the biggest guilty pleasure of this.
Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy made their way into the game as well.
Yeah, these models are outdated, but I won't lie, I like the main three. Foxy is the worse of it, look at this man. His hook is so flimsy looking. Foxy belongs in a minigame ala Fnaf 4 style where you could skip two hours into the next night. The other three are in the main game though, alongside the two Classic Characters.
You were on a boat having to check the cameras to watch the characters and shocking them on the cameras or at the doors. You can't administer a shock if it's charging or if there's a gas leak, so you have to turn around to stop the leaks. There was a SL esque minigame that revealed Purple Guy killing a child and after night minigames that showed Jolly and George at a Freddy Fazbear's Pizza while William in the Fredbear suit led them to their deaths. In terms of story, you play as a man named Liam Smith who would be guarding the cargo during the night, and on the custom night you would play as someone else named Matthew Thompson. Liam Smith was the night guard of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza and tried to stop the children from being lured away but that didn't work out so well. We get more information on the character in the next game, as Jolly 2 doesn't have much lore. The animatronics are being shipped off to a facility to be looked at after the MCI happened. Classic Jolly is also a springlock suit I should mention.
The next game after this was Jolly 3, in which I will be talking about both chapters. Yeah, Jolly 3 is a chapter styled game. There are two chapters, the first chapter, and then The Underground, which is Chapter 2. The Fazbear characters make a return, but as phantom like animatronics known as the metal characters.
They're fine, I don't really care for them much. They look pretty mid and they don't have truly full bodies. They basically make it harder and Foxy will kill you if you let one of the mechanics stay broken for too long.
Withered characters this time around. Withered Jolly, who has a more springtrap look to him... because he is a springtrap clone now.
Classic Jolly, now known, as Withered Jolly, probably has the best design in both games I'll be honest. He removes his head for some reason in Chapter 2 and I like the mask Jolly has, his ripped smile, the withering is nice too. And I'll admit, I don't find the corpse all that bad. Overall, this is a good model, and it makes sense considering that Jolly is the face of the franchise.
The next up is George, who makes his way into both chapters but only has one model.
He's not that bad either, just kinda... bland. Withered George is just kinda head, shoulders, knees, and toes. That's it. Literally it. He's alright I guess. His voice, becuase he gets a voice now, has him be more based off of a surfer which I find funny.
Tweetie is another alright design, she's not bad. Apparently she was a prototype being built for the Red Jolly prototype to perform at a band, but was then abandoned. I like the hole in her head, I find that super neat. That's basically all I like in terms of design. She has a shadow variation which is funny.
It's basically the same model but purple and dark. Nothing special.
Here we got one of the final characters of the game, Withered Maxie. She also has a shadow variation and she is probably my second favorite design. I don't know why but for some reason I just really like how she looks, she also looks pretty good on the cameras so maybe that's why I like her.
We got one more character, this is a jumpscare for the story. Metalionette returns, now named Antonette.
I'm pretty sure it is the exact same model lmfao. She only jumpscares you during the main gameplay so there's nothing to really worry about. She can't attack you during the main gameplay, or even kill you during the post night segment you see her in.
Now for Chapter 2, there's four more characters: The Rusted Animatronics.
Rusty Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy. They attack you during the post night segment of the Chapter 2 gameplay, which is Fnaf 4 esque. It's unknown what exactly they are and what they are doing in someone's house but they are there. One of the writer's, Weshek, said he would retcon them into being someone from Jolly Entertainment hired to kill the guy during the post night gameplay.
Speaking of gameplay, Chapter One's gameplay revolves around you using steam to deter the animatronics, while also recharging the steam, repairing it, and repairing fans. It's... not good. Night 5 is a train wreck and just not fun to play. There's after night minigames that have lore in them, which I will be getting too soon. Chapter 2's gameplay is actually pretty interesting. Jolly can be stalled on the cameras and keeping track of him is apparent. The game goes for a mix between Fnaf 3 and Pizza Sim gameplay, having a motion detector, a camera system with four sections, shadows that act like phantoms, a temperature system, and a jammer for dealing with the two threats. At the end of the night, you have to decode files while dealing with the Rusted animatronics. It's Fnaf 4 esque gameplay, hear breathing? Flash the light, if you don't, close the door. You get lore from these and there's even some minigames you can find in the phone section. The phone is basically a small game on it's own where you solve puzzles to unlock minigames and even get the good ending, which entails you collecting balloons to set a path for two spirits.
Now in terms of lore, you play as Liam Smith during the minigames, who is actually known as Eric Smith. Eric Smith is the father of Zoey Smith and a worker at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza. He was under the guide of William Afton and was given a tour around the building, going somewhere he wasn't supposed too and getting in trouble with William. He takes his daughter to work one day but after going inside he tells her to wait in the car. His daughter, Zoey, doesn't listen and goes inside, where William kills her. Eric would then board a cargo truck and be taken to Jolly 2, trying to find his daughter. In one of the minigames to find the good ending, he is about to be discovered on the truck and hides in the Jolly suit, the guy walks in and walks out. Eric stands up and immediately dies to the mechanisms in the suit, basically birthing Jolly. There is another minigame in which we get introduced to Eric's Wife, Toni Audrey's. Toni plans on destroying a lot of work of Eric, who was working on Antonette. Going over to Antonette, she gets electrocuted just as Eric walks into the door. She possesses Antonette. Zoey... possesses nothing. It's not like she would be perfect for Golden Freddy or anything, no, she possesses nothing. She does help her parents be freed in the good ending of Jolly 3 Chapter 2. Oh yeah, the bad ending, where Jolly 4 would follow up on, would actually have you finding Springtrap. You were investigators for Fazbear's Fright, but I believe that was retconned out of the lore. Basically, this is where you would have found Springtrap.
You play as Jack Carson throughout Jolly 3, being guided by a man named Theodore Murphey, also known as Theo. In Jolly 4, you would have played as the Chief Investigator and take down Kevin Johnson, the CEO of Jolly Entertainment. But there isn't much in the way of Jolly 4, there was a second generation of Jolly, George, and Tweetie. But with everything going on, I won't talk much about Jolly 4 because who knows what's going on.
Now I'm sure everyone is aware of Jollibee's and the two games and the one cancelled game. Jollibee's and Jollibee's Phase 2 are two games Ivan made now thoroughly based on the Jollibee's brand. Jolly was now Jollibee, there was Hetty, Popo, Yum, and Twirlie. They had different models between Jollibee's and Jollibee's Phase 2, and that's because in lore, they are different models. Also Jollibee's was going to have a midquel that would have tied more into the Jolly side of things, but that never came to be. Kevin Johnson was after immortality and hooked himself up to Hetty and possessed her at the end of the game, the midquel was going to have a girl be decapitated and eventually possess Hetty. I don't remember much of the Jollibee's stuff I only like the old Jollibee animatronic because I think it looks menacing.
Now, taking all of this in, I'm not adding Jollibee's to Alchemists Apathy. Jolly on the other hand, I'm adding. So you might be wondering what the story is? Well, it goes a little something like this:
Around 1980, a partnership between two college roommates named William Afton and Oliver Johnson was created. William and Oliver were college roommates as previously mentioned, and with William's success, Oliver wanted to get in on the action as well. So working out a deal, Fazbear Entertainment gave 10% of their monthly profits to Oliver to help hire people and kickstart the company. Around the tailend of 1983, Jolly Entertainment was publicly introduced and talked about how Fazbear Entertainment got them to where they were now. A facility was made in Oregon not long after called the "Afton-Johnson Manufacturing Facility". William was a bit less than pleased that he had to share a manufacturing facility with someone but it was Oliver and he tolerated Oliver. Later, two animatronics were created to replace the golden suit animatronics and truly retire them, the flagship franchise started to include them, but first, there was a short lived burger joint simply called "Jolly's". Jolly and George appeared at the location in 1984 but it didn't last very long. Barely anybody went to the location as they were too busy preparing for Fazbear Entertainment's new ventures. A fun fact, Jolly and George were created using Jolly Entertainment funds by one Eric Smith. Eric would be fired but would be hired by Fazbear Entertainment when they were phasing out the Golden suits. Fazbear Entertainment was also interested in the new project Eric was making: The Antonette.
The Antonette was basically a replacement for The Puppet animatronic, which Fazbear Entertainment was in talks about phasing out as well. Everything seemed fine at this point, the Jolly's Diner had closed down shortly after it's opening so Eric got to see his creations perform at Freddy's. Everything seemed great... until he saw William lure his daughter Zoey away. Eric went after him, screaming him to let her live, saying that the other children deserved to die but his daughter didn't. William spouted back playful arguments while Zoey cried and cried. She was eventually murdered and Eric was framed for it, with many people noticing he was screaming outside. Eric and his wife, Toni Audrey's, divorced shortly after, with Toni hating Eric's guts. Eric worked on Antonette, thinking about his daughter, the recent animatronic disturbances, and the missing children. He eventually put it together just as Antonette caused a massive power outage. The souls were possessing the animatronics, which meant... Zoey was still around somewhere. Eric went to a loading dock to sneak aboard and find his daughter, all the while Toni followed Eric. The power out was caused by him clearly, and she wanted to give him a piece of her mind. Antonette, Jolly, and George were taken as well, as Eric had been fired by both companies and both companies held the rights of the characters. They put them on the cargo ship to be sent to the AJMF up in Oregon. Eric would then say his name was Liam Smith and he would be a night guard on board. He watched over the animatronics all the while trying to find his daughter.
Eventually, on his seventh day, he had someone else take his shift while he explored the ship. He found his wife, going over to Antonette. The animatronic was still on and touching the wires sent many electric shocks throughout her body, killing her. Eric ran so that he wouldn't be blamed for another murder, hiding in the Jolly suit. When he went to hide in the Jolly suit, which he forgot he made into a springlock suit alongside George. When the coat was clear, he stood up to celebrate but died due to the springlocks. The Smith family had all died, with their souls still walking the earth. Zoey was a hallucination of the very first Fredbear animatronic, but with accessories similar to Freddy, Toni had gone on to possess the Antonette, and Eric would go on to possess Jolly. Afton would use the AJMF to study how the souls worked and how they came to life, while also planning to break off from Oliver, who was in on William's plan, discovering the secrets of immortality. Both had different reasons to be immortal, Oliver wanted to live forever, as he had contracted a terrible illness that he thought had been treated since the forties. Becoming immortal and binding himself to the animatronics was the only way to go. He would start to study the animatronics around him while Afton would break off to form his own company, Afton Robotics. Hot off the heels of him and his partners firings from Fazbear Enterprises as a whole. Oliver Johnson, and now his son, Kevin Johnson, would grow up to try and discover immortality together.
Jolly Entertainment would go quiet for a while, in 1992, they said they broke off from Fazbear Entertainment peacefully, gaining the rights to the Antonette model. Jolly Entertainment was said to be making prototypes similar to the "Circus Baby's Entertainment and Rentals" project that Fazbear Enterprises was running. In 2023, Jolly's Fantasy World opened, not using the prototypes from they had previously stated. The animatronics were sleek and a bit similar to the Funtime animatronics, having faceplates, being able to be rented out for private parties, and being able to create things inside of them, but only Jolly could do that, he was able to create honey and pollenate tables using his rear. The animatronics were all controlled through one soul however, Daniella Rivers, who had been abandoned near the Jolly Entertainment Manufacturing Facility. Daniella grew an attachment to the George character but had controlled all of the other animatronics as well, trying to be set free. She sought this by going to help Toni, who was still trapped in Antonette. Toni knew of the girls plight and tried to help her, but she was trapped and bound to the wires. She was there so she could eventually become an attraction herself. Jolly's Fantasy World would close down after a food poisoning. Apparently one of the competitors slipped chemicals into the food, the children were able to survive but Jolly Entertainment would be held liable. The building would soon close down and so would the company, as Kevin Johnson and Oliver Johnson were either missing or deceased. 2025 rolls around and two investigators go to inspect the Jolly Entertainment Manufacturing Facility after hearing calls and seeing faces in the windows. The investigators, led by their chief "C.T." as he was nicknamed, would lead Jack Carson and Theodore "Theo" Murphey into the facility.
Jack would be doing the heavy lifting while Theo would help him out of tight spaces using his expert hacking skills. Little did they know they were making their way down to find something they shouldn't have. Along the way, they found records for Oliver Johnson's death and a funeral service, and a missing poster for Kevin Johnson right next to a Red version of Fantasy Jolly. That Red version would disappear. This is the soul of Kevin Johnson, possessing and manifesting himself just like the old Golden Freddy sightings, now known as Red Jolly. Red Jolly would have been sighted by the night guard of Jolly's Fantasy World, Mikhail Schmidt, but no one believed him about anything happening there. Toni, Eric, and Daniella would try their hardest to stop Jack, Theo, and the chief from finding what was truly down underground, even following them down there. But it was too much, they found him. Oliver's last wish was to find William Afton and bring him to the facility, Oliver knew that Afton found a way to cheat death and he wanted his son to know it. Springtrap was found and brought to the facility's underground, where Kevin would try to replicate what Afton had done, using the prototype Fantasy Jolly's mechanisms to kill him with the faceplates. Jack grabbed Springtrap just as the facility had come down. Afton had woken up, surrounded by rubble, but he managed to climb his way out, realizing the damage the fire and the collapsing had done. As for Daniella, she was freed, she got the thing she wanted the most. As for the Smith Family, Zoey reunited them, and now, they are where the happy memories reside...
This is my take on Jolly! Managed to get it out while the hype in me was still real. Honestly a real blast making this one, it was the second fangame lore I made for Alchemists Apathy. So I hope you enjoyed it. What Jolly does next? I don't know. But I hope nothing but good things for it (Weshek should be deplatformed lmfao). Thank you so much for reading!!!
