Refused showed us this – Scandinavians make their music poppy despite the genre they're in. I agree, this is a bold statement, yet let us check, for instance, Zeromancer. You can tell they like industrial, but you can also notice they listen to pop despite their image being against that. I mean, their tunes are in a strange intersection of these two genres, but they do fit both of these idioms somehow. True, Nine Inch Nails probably already showed them a possible way – Trent Reznor is one of the major reasons industrial became popular –, though they added the influences that were actually influenced by the group I mentioned. Of course, they also augmented the hooks their predecessors only hinted at, which makes them what they are, i.e. a pop industrial rock collective.
