As the city reached day 10 of demonstrations and protests, it is evident that the stamina and strength of the people holds strong. With Minneapolis striking the cornerstone of history with the forward progress towards ridding the nation of unjust and unnecessary corrupt policing, it is without doubt that cities around the globe will follow. Members of the Indigenous community ushered the crowd into a ritual as Bay Area locals expressed their solidarity with the black community as well as their own individual trials and tribulations with the law. Closing the ceremony, supporters were encouraged to offer items into the fire in order to maintain it’s strength. Metaphorically serving as a parallel to the history being made, many offered whatever they could find as others prayed in front of the alter and revolutionary slogans were sketched across the pavement. It wouldn’t be the Bay without some Bay Area classics being blasted over speakers as “Fuck 12” is chanted in unison and locals offer piping hot potato soup.
