How to: Tsum Face Maker
If you’re following me on Twitter you should know (or have some idea) that I’m addicted to this little game called LINE: Disney Tsum Tsum. If you know the Japanese side of Twitter you should also know that Tsum Face Maker is the hip thing right now. So I’m here today to show you how to make your own tsum with Tsum Face Maker! With screenshots to make explaining easier.
What you will need:
A functioning mobile device.
LINE: Disney Tsum Tsum (Note: Must be the Japanese version, the international/English version will not work for this). (UPDATE: Can be bypassed, explanation below)
LINE app and account (not required (I think) but it has its perks).
The first thing you have to do is open Tsum Tsum app, finish the tutorial (if this is your first time, or just skip it), and check the event information pop-up. I honestly don’t remember if it appears as soon as you finish the tutorial, but if it doesn’t, you can view it from checking the setting (gear button) and tapping on the button that reads イベント情報.
The pop-up looks like this:
Now tap the topmost banner, scroll down a bit and you will see a big yellow button.
By the way, the text in pink says you can’t play with the tsums you make with Tsum Face Maker in the LINE game. Sad, but that’s life.
Anyway, tap that big yellow button and it will open Tsum Face Maker in your browser.
You can start making your own tsums now!
“But Erika,” you may be asking, “If it will open in my browser why do I need to install the Tsum Tsum app first?”
Because they want you to download and play their game, then sacrifice your time and maybe money for those cute digital plush.
Actually I tried opening the website directly at first, but it kept redirecting me to Play Store. So I installed JP Tsum and opened the website from the app as instructed in the website. Just then it worked.
After you have done this once, you can open it directly from your browser any time.
UPDATE: It seems you can bypass the JP Tsum requirement by following the correct link. Here’s the link! ...I will still recommend playing Tsum Tsum, though, haha. It’s fun.
So you may be wondering how are we supposed to navigate this website that’s completely in Japanese? Fear not! I’m here to help you.
After you have pressed start, you will be given two options:
The top one will let you make your own tsum, and the bottom one will let you stack the tsums you have made. Let’s do the top one first.
You will be prompted to choose between boy and girl, but it actually doesn’t matter as the tsum parts are all the same, pick whichever suits your need the best.
This part is straightforward. Go wild.
After you tap OK, you will be taken to another screen.
This is where you give your tsum a name and skill description.
The name box, which I have filled here, is blank on default. Since this is a Japanese app, the character limit is quite tight, so keep it short.
The description boxes are filled randomly on default, you can either keep tapping the refresh buttons until you find something you like or fill them yourself. If you don’t know Japanese you can either Google Translate and learn basic Japanese grammar, or just leave the randomized description be and proceed by tapping OK. I mean, who cares what it says as long as the tsum is cute.
Confirm, get to another screen, open the present box, and now you have your own custom tsum!
You can now share your new tsum on your social media of choice or download it as an image file.
But wait! When you scroll down there are even more options.
You see that box I blurred? It has a randomized string of letters. This is your Tsum ID. Tsum ID is important if you want to have access to your tsum again in the future.
“But what if I want to make a bunch of tsums and keep them all? I just note down all those IDs?”
This is where having a LINE account comes in handy.
If you tap that blue button under the box, you will be able to add your new tsum to your collection so you don’t need to note down those IDs, but you need a LINE account to do this. If this is your first time, that button will let you connect Tsumgaomaker (as this generator is called in Japanese) to your account. Confirm, and get access to collection.
This is how the collection screen looks like. It’s almost a perfect match with the LINE game!
With that + button you can add more tsums to your collection either by inputting a Tsum ID or tapping on ツム顔をつくる right below the box to make a new tsum.
The big yellow buttons on the bottom have different functions. The leftmost TOP will take you back to the front page / title screen, the middle このツム顔でつむ will let you stack the tsums you have made, and the rightmost この ツム顔をプレゼントする will let you turn your chosen tsum into a gift.
Gifting seems to just be about wrapping your tsum in a different present box (chosen from a set) with a different message than usual such as FOR YOU! or HAPPY BIRTHDAY! (also chosen from a set) then sharing it. And you still keep your tsum, by the way.
I don’t know, it’s pretty cute, but also pointless. I ain’t covering it in detail.
So let’s stack our tsums instead!
Aren’t my fictional children cute?
As you may have guessed, you can add a tsum to the stack using the + button. It will give you the option to either input a Tsum ID or pick from your collection (the yellow button right below the box). If you’re picking from your collection, there will be two tabs available. The first tab, as you will see, is your collection itself. The second tab, the campaign tab, is what I assume where official will put more tsums to promote things, but there is only a Mickey tsum in it right now. You can stack up to 10 tsums.
When you have chosen a couple of tsums, you may be wondering what else you can do with them in this screen.
First, of course, you can switch their positions around by tapping on them. The fan button on the top left will randomize the position of your tsums. Meanwhile, the trash button will let you, well, remove a tsum from the stack.
Simple, right?
When you tap the OK button, a window will pop up. You can give a title to your stack of tsums! Just like when naming your tsum, there’s a character limit, but it’s longer here (about twice as long).
Congratulations, you have learned how to stack some tsums.
If you scroll down a little, there will be some buttons. The yellow ones, in order from top to button, left to right, are: “Make a new tsum”, “Gift this Tsum Face” (or stack of tsums), and “Collection”. The blue button with the gear will let you set your stack of tsums to appear in your front page. Isn’t that cute?
I think that’s about all you can do in this website! If you have any question, hit my inbox, mention me on Twitter, or find me in /r/TsumTsum.
