Warnings! FLUFF!
You decided to surprise Erling today.
It had been a while since you’d done something sweet for him, and the idea of bringing homemade food to his practice seemed perfect. You knew he’d be exhausted after hours on the field, and the thought of seeing his face light up at your gesture made your heart flutter.
The smell of your cooking lingered in the car as you drove to the training ground. As you pulled into the familiar lot, your grip on the container tightened slightly, careful not to disturb its contents. It was his favorite dish—the one he never failed to compliment whenever you made it.
You stepped out of the car, the cool air brushing against your cheeks as you adjusted the lid on the container. At the entrance, the guards took one look at you and immediately waved you through. Their knowing smiles hinting at their favoritism.
You couldn’t help but smile back, sweet and polite, as you made your way toward the field, your heart beating a little faster with every step.
The players were finishing up their drills when you arrived. Your eyes scanned the field until they landed on Erling. He was in his element, commanding the space with his usual intensity. The sight of him, sweat-drenched and utterly focused, made you pause. God, he was beautiful.
When he finally noticed you standing at the sidelines, his face transformed. The moment he saw you, your face lit up, and Erling’s heart did that stupid flutter it always did when you smiled at him.
He jogged over, and before you could say a word, his arms were around you. He pulled you close, crushing you against his chest in a hug so tight you could barely breathe.
But you didn’t mind.
You loved how Erling held you like you were the most precious thing in his world. Because to him, you were.
“Missed you,” he mumbled into your hair.
“Erling, you just saw me this morning,” you said with a laugh, but you hugged him back just as fiercely.
“Doesn’t matter,” he said, pulling back just enough to look at you. His intense blue eyes scanned your face like he was making sure you were really there. “You’re here now. That’s all that matters.”
You reached up to cup his cheek, your thumb brushing against his sharp jawline. “I’m always here for you, baby. You know that. I love you.” You were getting worried. He looked really exhausted as his features softened at your touch. The fatigue etched into his face seemed to melt away under your gaze, but you could still see it.
“Have you been pushing yourself too hard again?” You asked, your voice tinged with concern.
He gave a sheepish grin, scratching the back of his neck. “You know how it is. Can’t slack off if I want to stay on top.”
You frowned, your thumb pausing on his cheek. “Erling, there’s a difference between working hard and running yourself into the ground. You need to rest too, you know.”
His grin faltered for a moment, replaced by a guilty expression that made him look almost boyish. “I’m fine, love. Really. Seeing you here—it’s already made my day ten times better.”
You sighed, knowing how stubborn he could be when it came to his training. But you also knew how much he valued your support.
"I love you too by the way." He leaned into your touch, closing his eyes for a moment before glancing at the container in your hands. “What’s this?”
“A surprise,” you said, grinning. “I thought you’d be hungry after practice, so I brought you some food.”
His eyes lit up, and his grin widened. “You’re the best. Seriously, what did I do to deserve you?”
“I ask myself the same thing about you,” you teased, handing him the container. He opened it immediately, the aroma making him groan in appreciation.
“Smells amazing,” he said, taking a deep breath. Then he looked at you, his expression softening. “Thank you. For this. For everything.”
“You’re welcome,” you said, standing on your tiptoes to press a quick kiss to his cheek. “Now, sit and eat before it gets cold.”
He didn’t need to be told twice. You found a quiet spot on the sidelines, and he dug in, making exaggerated sounds of delight that had you laughing. “This is better than anything they serve us at the club,” he said between bites making you playfully roll your eyes. It's not true but you love when he compliments you.
“Glad you like it,” you said, resting your chin in your hand as you watched him. Moments like these—when it was just the two of you, away from the noise of the world—were your favorite.
As Erling ate, you notice how his shoulders relaxed, the usual tension that came from his intense training sessions melting away bit by bit. And you felt a little lighter, loving the fact that you bring him a little comfort. He caught you staring and paused mid-bite, his lips quirking into a lopsided smile.
“What?” he asked, his voice teasing but warm.
“Nothing,” you replied softly, a faint heat creeping up your cheeks at being caught.
“Lie,” he teased, setting down his spoon and leaning forward until your noses were almost touching. “Tell me.”
You looked up at him, your heart pounding, the space between you alive with energy. “Just looking at you,” you whispered. “Wondering how I got so lucky to have you.”
His voice was barely audible when he replied, “You have no idea how lucky I feel to have you.”
The heat in his eyes left you breathless. You swallowed, your mouth suddenly dry as the air around you charged with tension. Erling leaned closer, his face inches from yours, and for a moment you thought he might kiss you right there.
But then he sat back, smiling softly at your disappointment. “Later, my love,” he said, voice full of promise. “Right now, I don't want to let the other boys get a show."
You snorted at that, but your pulse was still racing. “Fine, be that way,” you teased as you pouted. “I’ll just have to wait.”
His smile went back to teasing as he went back to his meal. You let out a soft huff, leaning into his side. He nudged you with his shoulder before looping an arm around you to pull you in closer. Your head on his shoulder, his cheek pressed up against your hair as he finished eating. You could feel him chewing against your scalp, but it surprisingly didn't disgust you.
When he was done, he pressed a kiss to your forehead, and you shivered at the feeling of his warm lips on your skin. “I should be going,” he murmured. “Got a few more drills left.”
You nodded, pressing a kiss to his jawline before getting up. “Okay, I’m going to go. I’ll pick you up after practice if you want.”
He looked up at you, his gaze so intense it made your breath catch. “Or you could stay. We're almost finished anyways and we could just leave together. Besides, I like you here. It’d make practice that much better. You could be my little cheerleader.” He said the last part playfully, wiggling his eyebrows at you
You let out a small laugh, rolling your eyes even as you couldn't help smiling. “Alright, fine. I’ll stay. But only because you're begging me to.” You teased.
He grinned, standing up to pull you close again. “That I am.” His voice was full of warmth as he brushed his lips against your cheek, lingering for a moment before letting go. “I'll be right back. Wait here, my love.” And then he was jogging back to his teammates, leaving you on the sidelines with a heart full of love for him.
