Ward Roberts - Courts published by Erm Books (2012) - Out of Print

When I saw this book I was immediately taken by the amazing pastel colours, the lack of shadows, and the surreal, almost illustrated appearance of the images.  

Erm have a nice little book design they stick with for all their releases so far and I think it's great.  Side by side they remind me of all the books I used to have as a kid.  Kind of makes you wanna collect 'em all!  - but unfortunately this one is sold out.  Check out their others though.  Very cool combination of photography and art/illustration books.

Court your attention

For Ward Roberts the memories are mostly fond and became the inspiration behind his courts project. Travelling between Hong Kong, London, Melbourne and New York in 2008 he went in search of these recreational areas to see if they were still as popular now as they were during his childhood. 

The results are both haunting and beautiful at the same time, a lesson in composition and architectural harmony showing places that at once desolate and yet full of energy.
