A-T-3 067 Twilight 22 - Electric Kingdom
The Afro-futurist techno-utopia of Electric Kingdom by Twilight 22. It's still popular with body poppers. Twilight 22 was Gordon Bahary and drummer Joseph Saulter (the duo also recorded as Zero Hour), Electric Kingdom also has the vocals talents of Monyaka guitarist Errol Moore. Here's a great interview with Gordon Bahary http://www.steviewonder.org.uk/bio/life-stories/gordon_bahary_interview.html
The track is a mix of Planet Rock (A-T-2 039) with Egyptian sounding themes rather than Kraftwerk (Egyptian Lover would fly with this formula) and the conscious rap of The Message (A-T-2 052), both massive records from the previous year
Electric Kingdom the place is more Wakanda than Liberia. It's a kingdom which implies having a king, so who is the king of the Electric Kingdom? It could be Ray "Pinky" Velazquez who co-mixed and was exec producer on this track
Twilight 22 were signed to jazz label Vanguard. I think I'll look at jazz-funk fusion moving on to electro-funk next
Twilight 22 - Electric Kingdom (Original Vocal)
Electric Kingdom was a favourite with The Latin Rascals, here's their Electric Kingdom mega mix as played on New York dance radio WKYU's mix show in 1984. I'm surprised Blue Monday's Confusion isn't mixed in here, it seemed all there mixes from this period had a bit of Electric Kingdom and Confusion in them
