Horny Pete and Turbosteve's Excellent Adventure to the Van Sant Historic Airfield
I guess you had to be there.
No really. You HAD to be there. Bestest riding day of the year!
OK, it's been a pretty shitty year as things go, BUT, sometimes the stars align in a conspiratory way and you can't think of better place to be then on two motorized wheels touring back roads, eating chilli dogs and twist cones, watching small aircraft rise over a hill in the meadow, getting up close with Clydesdales and having lunch with cats. Skip the kitty meal and it's even better.
And then there's the covered bridges. You'd think the allure would have faded for me by now but I feel better riding out. Kinda like a magical endorphin portal.
For the record this tour passed through Hunterdon County, NJ, and over the Delaware River into Bucks County, PA. For my sport rider amigos the route doesn't offer many peg-scraping sweepers so you'll have to be content viewing the gorgeous scenery, creeping through charming small towns and breathing the cool electric autumn air. In time perhaps.
Some of the better Sena banter..."
Horny Pete: "Hey! This road is mostly dirt and gravel and it falls off onto a cliff!"
Me: "Don't look over there, look straight ahead, we're almost there. But really you should look over there because WOW what a great view!"
HP: "What if a car is coming the other way?
Me: You'd better hope it's a car because there's no room for two motorcycles and a truck!"
Yeah, you HAD to be there.
