1990 Gibson ES347 Vintage Sunburst
This 347 model falls between the ES335 and the ES355 when you look at it’s features. While the Norlin era is frowned upon historically by aficionados, this model seems to have a strong following and holds its value quite well. You will notice a few changes through it’s production cycle, the most obvious being the position of the coil tap switch. In it’s inaugural years this model carried a brass nut and the coil tap switch was positioned on the lower horn in a fashion similar to the Explorer models. This example does not have the brass nut and the tap switch is located between the three way pickup selector and the pick guard.
Some of the features on this guitar: TP6 fine tuning tailpiece, bound ebony fretboard with pearl block inlays on a slim taper maple neck, gold hardware, coil tap, multi-ply bound headstock with pearl crown inlay.
Many of these features are shared with the BB King Lucille model: TP6 fine tuning tailpiece, bound ebony fretboard with pearl block inlays, gold hardware, multi-ply bound headstock. The neck on the BB King is also maple but with a 50′s profile.
The maple neck/ebony board is in my opinion what differentiates the 347 from the 335—they sound very different.
As you can see this is an unusually pristine model with even the factory stickers still present on it’s pick-guard. 1990 makes this model 25 years old!
