Somebody else said exactly what I was thinking about the ESA 2019 situation. But especially:
“I’m seeing much more outrage and concern about the possibility of people’s LGBT colleagues *traveling* to KY for a meeting, than I’ve ever seen on behalf of LGBT folks who actually live in KY.”
And isn’t that how it always is? Everyone forgets that LGBT people exist in rural areas, conservative states, the South, etc. They want inclusion and that’s great, but as long as you’re outside this hopelessly naive idea of an enlightened zone the message is “you don’t count.”
Shout out to all the rural and southern LGBT people on here and in ESA for dealing with this every day and not just at a one-week meeting you don’t even *have* to go to.
