I'd heard the honking cars but figured it was just someone driving by honking at an inconsiderate driver (of which we get ALOT on the road that runs by the house). Nope! The group of 5 ducks that live in the chicken coop decided to take a field trip out the road gate, across the street and down the (VERY) BUSY road! DOH!!! What on earth were they thinking!? And why!? They'd never pulled that stunt before. After rounding the ducks up and walking them down the side of road back to the driveway and into the farmyard (all the while cars whizzing by ... thanks for slowing down folks 😕) I realized there were only 4! Oh no! So I went back down and started looking around hoping I wouldn't find her hit by a car. No sign of her on the other side so I crossed back over to the side where our fence is which is pretty rough from folks crashing into it (let's just say living along this piece of road is eye opening, freaky and insanely frustrating at times). In fact - a hole remains in the fence from one gal who crashed into the fence and took our electricity out. As I was passing that hole in the fence walking down thr side of the road I had a hunch and peeked in to see if I could see anything and sure enough - there was Miss Mallard duck tucked way back in between the fence and some straw bales that we have lining it. I left her to her business (laying those eggs before going broody!) as I couldn't reach far enough to grab her. Since then the ducks have escaped out to the road multiple times and each time I go running as soon as I hear the honking.
