Thanks guys! I feel awesome! I did all the things I was supposed to and none of things I wasn’t and I even rewarded myself with a luxurious shower afterwards (made me late  coming back to work, but no one cared) :D I’m sure tomorrow I’ll really be feeling it, but right now I’m still flying high enough on endorphins that the low weight count and the low # of reps isn’t depressing at all :P

(3/3) Authors I’ve found and don’t know what to think of so hesitate to buy are Raven Kaldera and Galina Krasskova amongst others. I’ve heard good things about the ‘Our troth’ books too. What do you think? Lastly, do you know of any good online ressources to point me towards? Because it quickly becomes an annoyance of white/white/white and thinly veiled racism, which just makes me want to bash my head in. Thank you for your insight and have a lovely day! :)

And honestly look up Jackson Crawford. He’s a professor of history with a special interest in the Norse. He’s got a youtube channel, which is amazing, and his translation of the poetic edda is my favorite. 

Our Troth is good, with some caveats. They’re big on telling you EXACTLY HOW to practice, which I’m not keen on. Your relationship with your gods is a personal thing, and your practice is yours. The rituals are a good thing to read and perhaps adapt to your own use, but know that you do NOT have to follow them precisely. 

Raven Kaldra is great. He’s exactly my kind of eccentric, and his ways of dealing with gods closely parallel my own. His page on shamanic herbalism is one I have bookmarked for frequent reference. Just know that some people absolutely fucking hate him, often because he’s trans, and some trans people will point out that even as a trans man he still holds some harmful views regarding trans people. So, take that with a grain of salt and be aware of it, but his writings on paganism are top notch. 

Galina Krasskova is....well, her own experiences with Odin very closely parallel my own.

They totally rocked it, and they were pretty incandescently happy by the end of the day. We even had a Christmas concert as their old school to watch little brother sing, and they kept the dress on then, too. T is pretty much always baseline happy, but the extra shot of happiness yesterday was delightful to see.

I have some questions re your heathen ways, if you don’t mind me asking and you answering? ;) First, during my various research sprees, I keep getting mixed messages on the difference between Heathenism - Asatru - Norse Paganism. And usually Asatru is seen in a not so good light. Though that seems quite US centric? In France (where I first started looking into it years ago), the term is mostly Asatru or Norse paganism, as heathenism literally translate as paganism in French…

The problem is that many neo-nazis in recent years have seized upon Asatru, mostly through sheer ignorance. They see the Vikings as these ‘pure’ people, willfully ignoring the fact that vikings traded from Russia to Constantinople, that vikings married and settled down all over, that race wasn’t a deal at all to them. 

They set  the Norse gods up as this great Aryan pantheon, ignoring the fact that several were disabled (Odin’s son Hod or Hodr was blind, Odin himself had but one eye, the god Tyr had but one hand, Odin’s son Vidar was mute). They ignore the fact that homosexuality was not reviled by the norse, and that indeed Loki himself is genderfluid, and Odin himself bisexual. 

As with so many things about nazis, they refuse to hear these facts.The sadder fact is that they don’t actually follow the gods they claim to; they merely use a tortured and twisted view of them as an excuse for their own hate. 

So there’s been a negative association with those who follow Asatru in the US. There’s a lot of us though who hate the fucking guts of those dickbag asshole shitheads, and will happily beat the everloving shit out of them in Thor’s name if given half a chance. 

I use heathen as a blanket term that includes anyone who doesn’t follow the gods of christianity or islam. Norse pagans or followers of asatru are pagans, or heathens. At least in my own Midwestern English.

(2/3) So I find myself extremely confused and as it sometimes happen, google is not my friend and NOT helping at all. What’s your stand on this? And would you know of any good places to point me towards to learn more about what differentiate them? Second, although I know to read both Eddas and the Sagas, what are good more modern books and authors? Because it’s kinda hard to find anything that is not just a joke or not informative at all…

Honestly? Neil Gaiman. His Norse Mythology book is fantastic. A crash course in Norse Myth 101, so to speak.

Right?!?!!! Also, I have both a boyfriend and a girlfriend who are very generous with how unavailable I generally am (tho, tbh, they both are pretty unavailable too, so it works out all around). But seriously. I hate how entitled to my time some people believe they are. wtaf.

Not precisely the same, but people do the same to me when I'm too tired or sick because of My Crohn's. It's always like "you should get out of the house, you'll feel better." It kind of misses the point entirely; like, the friends who say "oh you're tired, I could come over if you want" are the ones who make me love them.

Yeah, that sounds very similar. People with empathy are easy to spot. Everyone else needs to fuck right off.

They sent me a contract that said “as long as payments are made[no specified amount] are made every month, we won’t send you to collections.” I may passively aggressively send them $10/mo until the lawyer kicks in lol.

Oh no! If needed I definitely recommend reaching out to tenant/renters advocacy hotline. There's one in most cities and it's free advice from lawyers. The one here got me out of an awful situation a few years back.

Yeah, the folks I talked to are free, which is awesome. Appointments are few and far in between, though, so I gotta be patient. Especially because I’m not risk of becoming homeless, which rightfully takes priority.
