thank you for your post about the historical accuracy of Hamilton finding out about laurens' death! I saw the show last night, and the historical accuracy was the first thing I thought of cause I remember LMM saying he wanted this to be something historians respected.
You’re very welcome! I’m always happy to teach others about Laurens’s history. Like I said in that post about Hamilton learning of Laurens’s death, I think LMM’s change was understandable and appropriate. Even though Hamilton didn’t learn about Laurens’s death from the Laurens family, I think using the letter in the show made the moment more personal and poignant. There’s also a lot of history LMM had to get into a 2 hour and 45 minute show, so some creative license is to be expected. Overall, I think the show is definitely something that historians are respecting and enjoying.
