Besides, old habits die hard. He wasn't a butler, but he certainly used to do all of Quijon's bidding. Even the things Quijon didn't ask for directly, he was used to taking care of. He was the driving gear of the Crestfallen Circle, in a lot of ways-- the cog that powered the other mechanisms. One doesn't let go of that sort of responsibility so easily.
