Author’s Note: Hi anon! Thank you for your request! I’ve never even considered writing for Eso before, so this was a fun one to work on! Sorry it’s a bit short, but I still hope you like it! :)
“Is something wrong?”
Eso sits beside you on the couch, leaving his brothers at the kitchen table to continue playing their board game. You’re surprised he steps away from them, considering how glued to the hip they all are. However, since the two of you have been together, he’s slowly been integrating into the whole “boyfriend” role. And for someone who’s half-cursed spirit and over 150 years old, he’s doing better than you expected.
You sigh, shrugging your shoulders in an apathetic response. “It’s silly.”
“Tell me.”
You swallow hard, nervous to admit it. “I’m just missing my family and friends, that’s all.”
It’s been months since you abandoned your simple life to join whatever mess Eso and his brothers roped you in to. While you don’t regret your decision, there are times, like this, where you miss it. The brothers never cared for sentimentality, Eso included. That’s why it surprises you even more when he wraps his arms around you, pulling you in closer for a hug. He rests his chin on the top of your head, massaging your back. “I’m sorry.”
An apology? What’s going on here? You relax into his hold, waiting for him to elaborate. Eventually, he continues. “I know it was not easy to leave your ordinary life to join us. And I know I am not the best partner. But rest assured, I am learning every day to be better. For you.”
His confession has you stunned. All this time, he’s been devoted solely to his brothers. This is the first time that he’s dedicated anything to you. It’s enough to bring you to tears. As you sniffle onto his bare chest, he cups your cheeks in his hands, staring curiously at your swollen eyes. “Why do you cry, my love?”
My love. The sweet pet name has you bawling more. He brushes his thumbs across your face, wiping the tears away. “Are you sad?”
You smile. “No, Eso. Not anymore.”
He grins, his dark eyes tender as he gazes at you. “Good.” Bringing his face to yours, he kisses you gently. He doesn’t let you go, tongue flitting across your lips, until Choso clears his throat in the background.
You break apart, giggling, expecting Eso’s serious expression to return on his face, embarrassed at this public display of affection. Instead, he smiles, pressing a sweet kiss to your forehead.
There are some quest rewards which give an item which produces a fun effect when used. The items I have found so far are: Finvir’s Trinket (Glenumbra quest; ‘Can’t take it with them’, quest starter inside Bad Man’s Hollows), the Token of Root Sunder (Grahtwood quest: ‘Forgotten Soul’, quest starter inside Root Sunder Ruins) and the Blackfeather Court Whistle (Stonefalls quest: ‘Decree of the Court’, quest starter inside Crow’s Woods). N.B. the Blackfeather Court Whistle appears to be bugged – I can’t get it to work anyways /bug report sent ;)
