I want to say something about Nicky and Joe: two statements can be true at the same time.
Yes, I loved the glimpses into their domesticity, they had some tension, and some very gay and awesome moments. Yes, I love that they're lovers and best friends.
But it was obviously "tamer" than the first movie. The people who don't want to see them as a couple can brush it aside. That's my issue. All the conservative people watching can pretend they're not a couple. In the first movie they kissed on screen and Joe said he loved Nicky in English. In this one we get a head bump and a "Ti amo" that isn't even subtitled.
Let's not even talk about Andy and Quynh, to us queer people it's so obvious that they're not just platonic friends. But to the others? The older generations? Homophobic people? Just friends, obviously.
So yes, I'm mad we didn't get at least one kiss when the two main romantic relationships are so important to the story. If they were heterosexual relationships, you bet there would have been at least one kiss. This feels like such a stepback.
