“Ah good, you’re here,” The creature said with an unusual sweetness, walking further into the living room and sitting down right beside Quentin–though the most remarkable thing may have been the large mylar Hello Kitty balloon that it handed over the ribbon of. They were so close their legs were touching but the Monster didn’t pay it any mind. “I heard that it is your birthday, and that friends get each other special gifts on those occasions. I could only think of one thing.” It smiled, touching Quentin on the shoulder, “I’m going to put myself away for the night and let you have your Eliot but only if you promise you won’t kill me when I come back tomorrow morning.”
Quentin sat cross-legged at the window seat in the living room of the loft. Slowly Marina... or Kady... he wasn’t really sure whose loft it was at this point, but it was beginning to feel like a place that could be a home. Not like the Cottage had been... either of the cottages, but like Whitespire. Somewhere where he felt like a fixture instead of an accessory. He closed his eyes and ignored the single cupcake and candle Julia had left on the coffee table for him. He didn’t have time for a birthday and didn’t really feel like he had anything to celebrate. He was caught up in those thoughts when he felt that familiar static feeling that came just before the Moster’s arrival.
He opened his eyes and looked up at the other when he felt their knees press together. Eliot’s long legs tucked up and mirroring his own posture and position as a balloon’s ribbon was pressed into his hand. He glanced up at the balloon and offered a small, put upon smile. He was about to say thank you when the creature began to speak. He waited and listened patiently knowing it was going to be more musing on how quaint humans were with their petty celebrations.
And then he wasn’t. Quentin’s fingers slipped on their grasp of the balloon’s string for a moment as his breath caught in his chest. It felt like all of the air had been sucked out of the room... The monster was willing to give him back Eliot... just for a night? He wasn’t sure if that hurt more or less than the possibility of not seeing Eliot again until he could free him entirely. But this was Eliot, HIS Eliot. He would give heaven and hell for a single moment with him again. How could he say no?
“I...I...” He stammered as he tried to form actual words. “yes! I’ll do it. I... anything. You’ll let me see him, let him free for... I’ll do it. Whatever you need from me to promise, I’ll do it.” He replied eagerly eyes flooding with tears as he even thought of having Eliot... Just for a night.
