Summary: In the summer of ’03, Maria’s kid comes home with a friend.
James Barnes is a junior, charming and polite and smiling a grin of perfect teeth.
Steve spends the entire drive to Tony’s welcome home dinner listening to Maria not-so-carefully tiptoe around Steve’s extended stay and the unpleasant news of his divorce. Instead of placating Tony with assurances that he’s still more than welcome to spend time with his soon-to-be ex-wife, however, Steve is much too busy trying not to let his eyes linger on their—second—houseguest.
It’s been a while since Steve’s let himself look, and Bucky almost seems like a cruel twist of fate.
Steve finds himself on the rough side of a midlife crisis when Bucky Barnes waltzes into his life.
