Hi sorry this has probably been asked but im new and so curious. What is essentia exactly? Vivi’s cool spear thing..? Just direction to another post would be ok too! Thanks! Essentia is the spear name, not the concept name as a whole, I've yet to come up with the latter.

Out of character it's just a thing I made up so that I don't have to draw his weapon in every panel. I choose to ignore the weapons on other characters without explanation lmao.

I've got this ref and the short convo between Vivi and Alisaie where Alisaie tells that Exarch (not himself, his people) made her a similar pair of weapons, even though they were previously unique to Vivi. As for Vivi's spear, he got it on the Source as a gift from someone important.

There's no deep aetherological explanation as of now, something something weapon forged from special alloy, put under pressure and a spell that shrinks it to its "gem" form, then the future owner pours their own aether to restore its shape. It becomes "linked" to one person due to being "rehydrated" with their aether. Inflatable vampire weapon!

It's not relevant to the plot, so I'm not in a rush to polish the details, but I hope this gives you a rough idea of how it works.
