E-stopped cable car, plus grip assembly. The emergency stop is the giant red lever. This basically wedges a piece of steel into a slot in the center of the tracks, providing enough friction to rapidly stop the train even on a steep downgrade. The friction makes this e-stop smell wonderfully metallic and smoky when applied - and also forces the city to cut the cable car emergency brake out of the slot in some situations.
Don't turn the wrong way on a one way street, folks. And don't try to pick a fight with a cable car. I don't care what kind of car you have, it will lose.
(Everyone was safe, the e-stop protected the dumbass I'm ranting about.)
