Babies - Lots and Lots of Them!
I told myself that one of my goals in Korea is to do volunteer work. Today, I had my orientation to volunteer at Eastern Social Welfare Society every week. I get the opportunity to nurture orphans and give them the deserved human contact. I am extremely excited to be given this opportunity because I am able to expand my passion for volunteering. This time, I get to work with newborns to approximately 15 month old babies.
As we got to see the babies we will be taking care of, I couldn't help but smile at how cute the babies were. However, it breaks my heart seeing them just there - waiting for someone to adopt them. I know seeing these babies I am definitely going to get attached to them and when during the time I am volunteering if any of them leave because of being adopted, I will be saddened but happy that they get to start their life with a family!
I don't know what to expect but I am ready! :-)
Future CIEE students: Volunteer when you are abroad. Don't just study and party - take some time to yourself and give back to the community that accepted you for your study abroad. You will learn more about yourself and the community through volunteering. AND it is a great way to practice your Korean!
