hey look, there’s Ethan Jones, a 62 year old mechanic from Atlanta GA, somehow managing to be protective, fair, and loyal while also being outspoken, witty and a little too wise for their own good.
Family Legacy: The Joneses have lived on the outskirts of Clearwater for generations, Blue River Ranch remaining firmly in their ownership. It's been a staple of local goods and the Jones reputation itself is mostly positive and trusted.
Favorite Spot in Town: His ranch and the land, but when he goes into Clearwater Ethan really likes the diner.
Hidden Talent or Hobby: Ethan is an avid bird watcher and photographer. He also enjoys nature trails and just being out in the open any chance he has.
Strengths: Ethan is a typical man who was born and raised in the country. He's good at fixing things, resourceful and he also carries strong values when it comes to family, what's fair and what's the right thing to do. He's reasonable, always well mannered and respectful.
Weaknesses: Joneses are known to be warm but in their own sort of scrappy, direct way and Ethan is no exception. While his temperament has evened out over the years, there's still the Jones stubborn streak that's just in his blood. If he makes up his mind, he doesn't budge easily.
What Keeps Them Up at Night, If Anything?: Ethan always wants to know he's doing right by his family, so his concerns are always typical of a father. He hopes his children are following a life that makes them happy. Even after all these years, Ethan spends his last moments before bed having a little chat with Ava's picture that's still on his nightstand.
How Do They Handle Conflict?: Ethan is an expert mediator, he usually handles conflict calmly and efficiently. But, he's also not a pushover. He won't back down or avoid conflict if it's needed.
HISTORY
Backstory:
Ethan was born and raised on Blue River Ranch, growing up with a childhood that smelled like fresh cut hay and saddle leather, that sounded like wind through the grass and his father calling him in at dusk. He learned young what it meant to be a Jones. If you could help someone, you did and there were no questions asked. Most of his days were spent chasing adventure across the land, learning the ranch just like kids learned their ABCs. It was in his blood. One day, it would be his. And there was never a doubt in his mind, there was no other life he wanted.
The Joneses had a reputation throughout Clearwater, one that even reached beyond the small town. They opened their doors when people had nowhere else to go, offered a bed, a meal, a job. It was how Ethan met Ava. They were eighteen, she had walked away from a home she never wanted to return to, and the second she stepped onto Blue River, she became part of it. Their relationship was the kind people wrote songs about. Easy, steady and full of laughter. By twenty, they were married and two years later, Jackson was born. Ethan had never been more sure of anything in his life, he was meant to be a father and Ava was meant to be a mother. They were young, but it never felt like a burden, not when Connor followed after. They took everything in stride, built a life that felt unshakable.
Even when Ethan's sister, restless and unable to stay in one place, asked them to take in her daughter, there was no hesitation. Nora became theirs and was raised as such. Ava was already pregnant with Tammie, but that didn't change a thing. They had enough love to go around, enough space, enough time. But life had a way of pulling the rug out from under you. Tammie's birth was complicated. The doctors did what they could, but it wasn't enough. Ethan was left standing in a hospital room, his wife gone, his newborn daughter in his arms, three other kids waiting for them at home. It was a loss that could hollow a man out, it could break him if he let it. But Ethan didn't break. He had a promise to keep.
The years blurred and stretched, the kind of long, steady march that felt slow in the moment but went too fast when he looked back. Jackson, Connor, Nora, and Tammie have become people Ava would have been proud of. They have strong backs and even stronger hearts. They work hard, fight for what they believe in, take risks, live with both feet in. And now, with all of them grown, Ethan sometimes finds himself standing at the fence line, watching the horizon and wondering what comes next. The promise he whispered to Ava in the end, he thinks he made good on it. But it doesn't make him miss her any less.
Current Situation: Ethan knows he'll be retiring in the next few years, and that all of his children are ready for their own next chapters. He also knows he's ready for his time on the ranch to slow down, so he's preparing Blue River Ranch to be passed on to the next generation.
How Do They Feel About the Changes in Clearwater?: Ethan thinks it's a shame with buildings or businesses with rich history get replaced with something new. He isn't a hateful person, but something about it makes him feel a sad nostalgic.
CONNECTIONS AND RELATIONSHIPS
Reputation in Clearwater: Ethan's reputation is mostly positive, even if the Joneses are known to be stubborn as all Hell when they want to be. In the past, Ethan was a little scrappy and impulsive but it'd only be the old timers who remember that. Although, some might recall plenty of times he's thrown boys over fences or given them a scare of their life with a shotgun when Nora and Tammie were seen with them.
Important Relationships: Jackson, Connor, Nora, Tammie, Ryan, Crosses, Vaismans, Andersons, Stones (basically everyone!?) Arthur
Relationship with The Saints: For a short while in Ethan's life, he was a member. He didn't climb high in the ranks and he reevaluated his involvement when Jackson was born. Slowly, he distanced himself from the MC before cutting ties entirely. However, leaving came with it's own set of problems. The Saints, understandably, wanted to make sure Ethan wouldn't suddenly spill what he knew to the law. The deal was simple, the MC would sometimes use land on Blue River Ranch to store things and Ethan wouldn't ask what. And in return, the MC would ensure he didn't get dragged into anything. Ethan doesn't have a positive view of them, even if he doesn't hate them. He's tried to raise his kids to stay clear of them.
Potential Story Hooks: Ethan helps people that are down on their luck so it's possible he lets people stay at the ranch or gives them a job. Someone could be pushing his patience, maybe someone did push his patience and he sent them on their way. Maybe someone's loved one pushed his patience, he sent them on their way and something terrible happened after. Endless possibilities.
Strengths: Ethan is approachable and dependable, always offering a reliable and steady friendship to those he trusts and is close to. His ability to assess situations with fairness and empathy helps him even in tense moments. Ethan excels at de-escalating situations and finding peaceful solutions, a skill honed from years of managing a diverse pack.
Weaknesses: Ethan’s firm trust in his own principles sometimes makes him resistant to change or alternative perspectives. His capability of being level and fair can sometimes surface as inaction. His refusal to be violent unless it is truly needed could cause potential risks to those he cares about.
Philosophy/Worldview: Ethan believes that strength comes from unity and second chances, but also that trust must be earned and protected. He sees the supernatural world as fractured but not irreparable, believing in the possibility of coexistence.
HISTORY
Backstory:
The Jones pack has long been known as peaceful wolves, stepping into conflict only when their territory or lives were directly threatened. For generations, they’ve worked closely with the Asphodel Institute, opening their home at Blue River Ranch in Georgia to lone, abandoned, and newly turned wolves. The pack’s guiding principle is rooted in compassion and the belief that everyone deserves a second chance, even if their willingness to take in lone or rogue wolves has occasionally drawn suspicion from other packs. Despite the whispers, the Joneses have always stood by their motto of helping others.
Ethan Jones grew up with these traditions, knowing that one day he would carry on his family’s legacy as Alpha. When he was young, he met Ava, a lone wolf who found refuge with the Jones pack. The two fell in love, married, and started a family. Their first child, Jackson, was followed by twin daughters, Tammie and Nora. Tragically, complications during the twins’ pregnancy and birth led to Ava’s death, leaving Ethan devastated. In his grief, Ethan poured everything into his role as a father, determined to honor Ava’s memory by raising their children with the same warmth and compassion that defined the Jones way.
Over the years, Ethan has maintained a close relationship with the Asphodel Institute in New York, visiting periodically to mentor wolves and evaluate whether they might find a home within his pack. While his commitment to offering second chances remains steadfast, there have been instances where wolves he welcomed into the pack turned out to be dangerous or rogue. When this happened, Ethan handled their exile as peacefully as possible, avoiding violence whenever he could. However, he ensured the Asphodel Institute was informed about any potential threats, fully aware that such reports would likely lead to hunters being sent to address the problem.
Secrets and Mysteries:
One instance tested Ethan’s commitment to his pack’s values. A lone wolf he had welcomed into the fold was revealed to have ties to a dangerous pack, using the lie of supposed exile as a cover to spy and feed information back. When Ethan uncovered the truth, he confronted the wolf and demanded they leave, striking a deal. He would refrain from reporting them and telling his own family, on the condition that their pack would leave his territory in peace. The wolf agreed, but the decision still weighs heavily on Ethan. He often questions whether sparing them was the right choice or a mistake that could come back to haunt him.
Current Situation: When the rift opened, Ethan was visiting the Asphodel Institute in New York, assessing and mentoring lone wolves. The news of the veil’s rupture shook him, and though his first instinct was to return home to his pack, his sense of duty compelled him to stay in the city. Despite his limited understanding of the veil and supernatural lore, Ethan’s practical nature drives him to offer protection to those affected. He knows he may not have the answers, but he’s determined to support those working to unravel the mystery and keep those caught in the chaos as safe as he can.
CONNECTIONS AND RELATIONSHIPS
Allies: Members of the Institute who share Ethan’s belief in providing refuge and guidance for troubled supernaturals. Most other supernaturals really, he's a nice guy LOL
Rivals/Enemies: Rival werewolf packs critical of the Jones family’s open-door policies, believing it weakens their species or poses a security risk. The dangerous pack whose spy Ethan spared may waiting for an opportunity to exploit his leniency.
Potential Story Hooks: The wolf that he exiled returns, but could be seeking redemption or to exploit Ethan further. Ethan could mediate conflicts in the Institute, pulling him further into the politics of the supernatural community which he usually is not involved in. The ranch is attacked while Ethan is in New York, bringing other members to the city etc and them trying to discover who destroyed their home. Wolves that were being assessed to join the Jonses are potential connections.
The Scott and Jones family has always worked closely within agriculture on Equinox. It was only a matter of time before their families, and businesses merged togther becoming S&J Foods. It all happened when Ava and Ethan fell in love. Madly and hopelessly, to be in fact. The two were married and went on to have three children.
The family business bloomed even if the joy was short lived. Ava died due to complications when giving birth to her youngest, the twin girls Tammie and Nora. And that was when the two families fractured.
The Scott's withdrew, slowly but surely, from S&J but Ava's sister remained, helping Ethan not only with their business but with his grief. And raising three young children.
There isn't a day that goes by where Ethan doesn't think about Ava. He ensured to keep her memory alive through reminiscing, retelling fond memories to their children. He can see how JJ, Tammie and Nora are just like her in a lot of ways.
Nothing means more to a Jones than family and Ethan taught this to his children. Never lie to each other, always have each other's backs. He also instilled a strong work ethic in each of his children, knowing the future of S&J Foods also provided them with a stable foundation.
In recent months, both Ethan and Amaya agreed that something needed to be done after strikes and protests brought their attention to the living conditions in The Wards. Since then, they have worked with smugglers even if it risks everything.
Some days, Ethan worries about this decision but when he hears stories about people dying when there's plenty of food to go around, he knows exactly what Ava would want to do. And it doesn't matter how long she's been gone for, Ethan will always try and honor her by living his life the way she would live hers.
The Jones family has been running a successful horse and cattle ranch in Texas for generations. Known for their exceptional skills in training horses, the Jones’ specialized not only in breeding high-quality cattle but also in training horses for races, rodeos, and even movie stunts. Their reputation for producing top-notch stunt horses grew over the years, attracting attention from Hollywood filmmakers who occasionally visited Texas to scout talent for Western films.
Ethan was born and raised in this life on Blue River Ranch, taught from a young age and becoming utterly devoted to the way of life. He was twenty when he met Ava and the two were married quickly, a love that was for the ages everyone said about them. At the age of twenty-two, Ethan became a father when their first child JJ was born and then a few years after that, twin girls, Tammie and Nora were welcomed into their lives.
However, Ethan learned quickly that with joy there is often pain. It's the very balance of life, the rise and the fall. Ava died due to complications while giving birth to Tammie and Nora and Ethan was never the same since. He devoted his life to his children, raising them to the best of his ability and keeping their mother's memory alive any chance he had.
Over the past thirty years, their life has remained true to the Jones' legacy but there have been recent changes. The special rise in special effects saw some of the Jones' finances take a hit but Ethan was made an offer that he couldn't refuse.
Approached by a Quinlan Kelly, an owner of a studio in Hollywood, stated how he wanted to hire the Jones family full-time as horse trainers and ranching consultants for their expanding slate of Western films. The studio promised not only a lucrative contract but also the opportunity to work directly on film sets in Los Angeles. Additionally, the studio offered to assist the family in relocating their operations to California, where they could continue their ranching business on a smaller scale while being closer to the film industry.
The Jones family faced a tough decision. Moving to Los Angeles meant leaving behind their beloved Texas ranch, but the opportunity to work closely with Hollywood, coupled with the promise of financial security, was too good to pass up. After much deliberation, they decided to take the plunge and move to Los Angeles.
The move wasn't easy. The Jones family sold a portion of their Texas ranch, keeping a smaller piece of land as a retreat for when they wanted to return to their roots. They transported their best horses to Los Angeles, where they purchased a smaller ranch on the outskirts of the city. This new ranch "Sunset Ridge" serves as their base of operations for their work in the film industry. The family quickly adapted to their new life, balancing their traditional ranching work with the demands of Hollywood.
And now, Ethan realizes that the rise and the fall is happening yet again. He has growing suspicions about the legitimacy of Quinlan's businesses and even the man himself. Quinlan requested if crates of props and other fragile items for films could be stored at the ranch for safe keeping, and Ethan obliged. Curiosity got the better of him, and he soon learned that his new home was being used as a front and store for drugs.
And that was only the tip of the iceberg as now Ethan is being requested to aid Quinlan in rigging horse races. He feels as if he's let his family down, but he's also terrified of the potential danger his children might face because of his choice. All he knows is he needs to find a way that's safe for them to get back to Texas, as soon as possible.
The Jones wolves were a part of the Cross pack for many generations, all born and raised in Atlanta. It didn't take long into Ethan's childhood for him to realize he hated everything about how the pack was run and most of all how members were treated. Still, there was safety in numbers and Ethan knew better than to rock the boat especially when he met Ava and went on to become a father to four children, JJ, Elijah and Tammie and Nora.
Ava's death while giving birth to their daughters was an Earth shattering grief for Ethan, and he has never been the same since. However, he soldiered through every ounce of the pain in order to provide and cherish the four children she blessed him with.
Twelve years ago, when The Cross pack was driven out of Atlanta and attacked by hunters and another pack, Ethan's brother Everett was killed. It was all too natural for Ethan to treat Hazel and Bodie as his own from that point on, extending his already existing love and protection to his two nieces.
The pack arrived in New York, relying on allies with the Rose wolves that subsequently welcomed them into The Syndicate. Despite being wary of the dangers it imposed, Ethan's observant and organized personality meant he was a natural at logistics and he later became a head of transport.
The Jones' also run and own the autobody shop, and Ethan can be found there most days. While he doesn't love that his children and nieces now work with The Syndicate themselves, he knows he'd be a hypocrite if he tried to prevent it. Ethan, instead, ensures to support them in all of their wishes and hopes he has taught them well enough when it comes to protecting themselves. As always, he's there for all of them at a drop of a hat and just because he's an old Southern gent doesn't mean his methods aren't too far off from using a shotgun or bat to protect his family.
Ethan Jones followed in his family's footsteps and began working with The Syndicate in his early twenties. He has never been a violent person, and instead was an asset of coordination and responsibility. He became a Head of Transport in his 30s.
The death of Ava Jones shook Ethan to his core when their daughters were born. He never wished for any of his children to join The Syndicate but knew he'd be a hypocrite if he tried to stop it. Instead he tried to teach them caution and to approach life with a level-head. Obviously did a great job with Nora and Tammie.
Since the start of the war, Ethan has done everything in his power to protect his family. With Everett, Bodie and Hazel missing, he's terrified of the same happening to his own children but knows how important it is to see all of the Jones reunited again. Tries to join any search he can so his children aren't causing chaos by themselves.
