❛ how long has it been since you've slept? ❜ / for : davina claire.
a scoff breaks out of her, as though the mere idea of getting sleep was ludicrous. davina had never been the type of girl to sleep through the entire night, always a daughter of hecate ( the goddess of the moon ), even as a baby. the moon was up, so was she. but now? the young woman cannot remember the last time she took a nap longer than an hour. life has simply been... too much. too busy, too tiring, too vexing, too overwhelming. sleep feels like a waste of time. ❝ things have been crazy, ethan. i mean, you know everything that has been going on, ❞ she replies quietly, light hues avoiding his figure as the woman keeps herself busy with the utensils in front of her. otherwise, @ethanlwate might notice the bags under her eyes or the way her hands are shaking or the fact she can barely keep her eyes open. ❝ i'll sleep once we figure this out. ❞ unless yet another problem arises, but davina is not about to say as much.

❛ sit . gesture for my muse to sit down .
loud & deafening silence. accepting. @ethanlwate.
honestly, she's not much of a reader. not anymore, anyway. it's same story as plenty of other people: she couldn't get enough when she was a kid and then at some point, some wire detached and sparked and suddenly the only books she had on the shelf were her textbooks. she's trying again though - finally found a book that interested her at the library. silly tales of american folklore.
if there's one thing mae can always get behind, no matter the medium, it's funny stories and mythical beasts. she's not all that far in when ethan approaches and sinks into the couch beside her, meeting her side-eye with a pleasant face and a curious lean against her shoulder. she's a little embarrassed honestly, feeling like she's caught reading kid stories, but angles the book toward him nevertheless.
they don't talk and she isn't sure what to say to justify the choice anyway, so she just keeps reading. the adjustment she makes so that he can see the book becomes more permanent, body angling so he doesn't have to lean on her, arm and the book sliding almost between them.
it seems like a safe assumption that he reads quicker than her and he seems to make no objection when she turns the pages, so she goes at a steady pace through the rest of the chapter, cheeks and ears burning when a silly illustration takes up a full page toward the end.
finally, then, she turns to face him, smiling uncertainly. "uh. it looked cool." and silly and whimsical, and he seemed to enjoy it enough to be creeping over her shoulder, so. "i'm not that far, obviously.. d'you want me to go back to the start so you can read the beginning?"
