I left an ethical slaughter consult yesterday little more than an hour before I arrived. There were some corralling issues, and when I was finally on the ground with an animal I realized my heart was beating as fast as his. And so I said "today's not the day. I'll come back when we are more prepared." And we let him go. I felt kind of possessed and strange, but proud. Resolute.
