Research Proposal:
1.Research Category: Relationships
2.Research Topic: Interracial dating/relationships in society and how its viewed. I chose this topic on a personal level in that it bothers me that it’s looked down on by many today. On an academic level, I am very curious and interested to find out the views from not only interracial couples but from Caucasian, Asian, African American, etc. Really just get down to the core of why it should be looked at differently than say a Caucasian male and female, so that one day it will not be an “issue”.
a. Why should interracial relationships be an “issue” or viewed any differently from any other relationships?
b. Have we let the views of others effect the decisions that we make for our own lives?
c. Has the media given off negative feed on this topic, or made it look like it’s okay to bash people that choose this lifestyle?
d. Why can’t people marry whom they fall in love with?
e. What is a “perfect family”?
3.15 Sub questions: why should interracial relationships be an “issue” or viewed any differently from any other relationships?
a. Why do we see the color of someone’s skin as being a “direction” in the choices we make?
b. Do you think it’s becoming more common with the younger generations rather than say our parents and grandparent’s generations?
c. Do people that are not for but against this actually have ethical reasoning?
d. What is the public reaction to this?
e. Why do people think mixed children get bullied and looked down on? Do you think this happens or not?
f.Do you believe your life would be different in any way if your spouse were of the same race? If yes, how so? If not, why?
g. Does it affect your life when you see an interracial couple? Why?
h. Have the members of our society ever thought about how all the negative views on how they feel about interracial relationships emotionally affect those who believe in this?
i. Will America morally improve their behavior towards this topic?
j. Does scripture back this up?
k. Linked to the main question, is there such thing as a “perfect family image” to you?
l. Say I am in a relationship with a black male, and you’re a white female in a relationship with a white male, why can you be happy and I cannot? What gives you the reason to judge me and try to make decisions for me?
m. Do cultural differences make this a problem? Ethically, how?
n. Why do people think blacks,whites,Hispanic,etc; are not all equally the same?
o. Why is racism still am issue in society today? Why has it gotten so bad that it’s effecting relationships and families all over the world?
SECOND: PODCAST ANSWERS
1.Some ways you can search are by choosing keywords.
2. Boolean Operators are helpful for many reasons and here are some reasons:
AND- combines/narrows the search.
OR- searches either and broadens the search.
NOT- excludes specific terms and narrows the search.
3.It is effective to come up with key words in that it will help you throughout your research and gives you more specific information making it easier to be successful with the research. You can come up with these key terms by using the Boolean operators and searching for like terms that relate to your category.
4.Two key words: Racism, Relationships
-These keywords will help target exactly what I am looking for and help give me direct results.
