Conspiracists and hate groups (ooh the venn diagram there) are big money makers for facebook, twitter and youtube. They do lots of engagement, likes shares comments, hate pile ons, clicks out to the hatesites that spew articles and videos and podcasts and memes, merch, these people buy merch of their beliefs whether it’s live laugh love home decor or more sinister, they buy the supplements and the MLM junk and the expensive home security/personal armour/prepper food. They have been so protected because they’re the cash cows who’ll give you personal details to sell then follow through with targeted ad clicks to this website that validates their world view or that overly gendered baby onesie without being upset a website knew they were pregnant before they told their families. The nazi or mobster at the bar might be a big spender, but it’s shortsighted to allow them to come back.

Shortsighted might as well be the motto of late stage capitalism: cause a bubble then a crash for a buck, keep the bad guys who’ll eventually trash your bar for a buck, save christmas spending for a buck get 1 in 50 english people infected with covid, elect a demagogue hack that’ll destroy your country but first get your cuts for the rich for a buck. Genocide and slavery for a buck. Only making minor changes as an impending new government may consider legislating this mess and finally some rich white people got scared. Cheap, shortsighted, obscene GREED.

good news: the scrape has every BTS_twt tweet found in search

bad news: not convinced every tweet shows up in search

more bad news: there is no way I can manually get all the context from the account’s start in December 17 to January 14 (SUGA reveal) by the end of this week since I’m basically MIA due to the US Thanksgiving holiday. Which is probably for the best, my right shoulder blade is killing me. 

possible silver lining: there should be a way to scrape any tweets to the boys within a certain time period, match by date and time and keep only those. 

it would be neat to get an overall monthly or weekly count just to get a feel of fan activity during predebut . even in the first month there’s a shift as to who the boys respond to regularly. i’ll have to think about it though because i feel like i’m already on the ethical boundary trying to find context in a response.

So instead of considering the practical ethics of impoverishing and exploiting the many in the name of the few, most academics, journalists, and science-fiction writers instead considered much more abstract and fanciful conundrums: Is it fair for a stock trader to use smart drugs? Should children get implants for foreign languages? Do we want autonomous vehicles to prioritize the lives of pedestrians over those of its passengers? Should the first Mars colonies be run as democracies? Does changing my DNA undermine my identity? Should robots have rights?
