Declaring something a failure is a way to delegitimize it. And when something is delegitimized, it can become a failure.
danah boyd, “What if failure is the plan?” https://zephoria.medium.com/what-if-failure-is-the-plan-2f219ea1cd62
I’ve been thinking a lot about failure lately. Failure comes in many forms, but I’m especially interested in situations in which people…
Interesting persepctive of different ways to view Twitter and whether it is failing.
after a break due to the holidays and processing so many Indigo feels, I’m back trying to log all the replies and get context. I finally made it to December 2012 but there’s about 800 tweets left. my arm’s already starting to hurt.
#UnlockFreedomWithJin on this 5-Day Birthday Flash Fundraiser by Supporting Survivors of Trafficking and Exploitation in London
Join us in ensuring that survivors of trafficking and exploitation have a safe home!
ARMY hoped to support shelters and orphanages for Jin’s birthday flash fundraiser. One In An ARMY is inviting you to #UnlockFreedomWithJin by supporting Ella’s, an organization that provides safe house accommodation for survivors of trafficking and exploitation in London.
About Ella’s
Ella’s is a London-based organization working with survivors of trafficking and sexual exploitation. They provide support for more than 30 people and families and help when needed for dozens more. To ensure survivors of trafficking and exploitation have all they need to recover and build lives that are safe and free, Ella’s offers safe house accommodation for survivors when they are most vulnerable, care to help them recover and move forward, and long-term community-based support to help them build safe, independent lives.
Ella’s, which launched in 2014, is named after Ella, who had been exploited since childhood, and then trafficked from her home country to Thailand and later to London. She attempted to get out but was too scared to share her story with authorities. For this reason, Ella wasn’t entitled to any support. She felt unable to break free and fell back into exploitation. After its inception, the organization did all it could to help Ella find the professional support she needed when she was in London, and they remain in contact. Overall, Ella’s aims to provide survivors of trafficking and exploitation with a real chance to recover and stay free.
How to Contribute to the Campaign
For a minimum of £2, you can create a huge difference in the lives of survivors of human trafficking and exploitation. Through our birthday flash fundraiser for Jin, ARMY around the globe can support Ella’s in providing the best care for survivors and their families.

well
good news: the scrape has every BTS_twt tweet found in search
bad news: not convinced every tweet shows up in search
more bad news: there is no way I can manually get all the context from the account’s start in December 17 to January 14 (SUGA reveal) by the end of this week since I’m basically MIA due to the US Thanksgiving holiday. Which is probably for the best, my right shoulder blade is killing me.
possible silver lining: there should be a way to scrape any tweets to the boys within a certain time period, match by date and time and keep only those.
it would be neat to get an overall monthly or weekly count just to get a feel of fan activity during predebut . even in the first month there’s a shift as to who the boys respond to regularly. i’ll have to think about it though because i feel like i’m already on the ethical boundary trying to find context in a response.
This is Jimin’s first tweet, and a threaded reply saying “Nice to meet you~!!!” It’s obvious what the missing tweet is about and it’s easy to assume it was Lost To Time.
This is 2_AMinji’s profile
the 32 tweets are mostly RTs of BTS replying
I’ve seen this with various accounts. Removing yourself from the conversation is a 2022 feature so their notifications would’ve been constantly swamped with RTs, replies, likes, etc. My guess is they created a new account, named themselves to 2B_MIN, and then named the old account 2_AMinji and RT’d the tweets onto their timeline so the notifications can swarm that account.
Which means their original account might have the original reply. A twitter search, a checking of dates and times..
Is it necessary to do this work? In terms of simply getting the data that is “what did bangtan tweet”, no. But I think context is nice and it’s been cool to get a glimpse of how BTS and ARMY interacted predebut.
28 replies, joonie plz i would like to finish february 2013 somehow tonight
me: logs 20 replies for January 24, 2013
spouse: you going to bed soon?
me: yeah, I just wanna get through this day but it’s the day Jimin was revealed. There’s only <scroll> <scroll> <scroll> <scroll> <scroll> oh uh nevermind
(33 replies, plus maybe 3 - 5 more tweets. there’s a cute conversation of a k-diamond doing Jimin fanart and Joon asking Jo Kwon to follow him. BTS were very cute supporting 2AM)

i’m really tired. i probably have most of their predebut tweets but there’s no context whatsoever. sometimes accounts are suspended. some go private. there’s an interesting trend where some of these accounts wipe all the tweets except retweets of the boys’ replies. there’s one that’s distressed why people still follow her account despite her asking not to in the bio.
there’s a more annoying trend of folks marking down what number reply they are in the tweet because it’s harder to slog through all that to find info.
account names start to look familiar. it’s pretty cute to see them interact with a small group of fans on a regular basis. it’s less cute when you find out one of them turned/is a sasaeng and an admin of the BTS_ARMY twt account. screencapping all of those takes a lot of time and effort.
it’s a more difficult challenge than just purely logging retweets or quote tweets. i take frequent breaks but when hobi puts out 3 logs in 2 weeks with 10 replies each and has his birthday with more replies and joon decides to play 20 questions with armys, it gets daunting.
i am finally free of march 26, 2013
here’s an example, here’s what comes up in twitter search
here’s what comes up in my scrape
here’s what I see when I click on the actual tweet
jeongguns where did you come from
not me looking at BTS going “i’ll answer 10 questions!” and only finding 8 in the scrape, finding one in the comments and unable to find the last one
(also, not trying to panic. i’ve made it to predebut but I think there are missing replies everywhere and I got to finish this stuff first before even trying to go through the comments. there are so many 😭
