Every year in the springtime, I do a pro bono photoshoot for the Ethos rock band students. This week-long session is one of the creative highlights of my year, creating images that are a mix of ideas from the students, their teachers, and myself. The collaborations with these talented students results in photos that inspire me and help promote the great work that Ethos does around Oregon.

I was honored to photograph Ethos’ Ovation Gala for the fourth year in a row, and what a night it was! Great emcees, including Erin Sutherland of the Stolen Sweets, lively live auction run by Kelly Russell of Artisan Auctions, and of course, amazing student performances!

Mid March brought not just the Ides, but also the Ethos rock band showcase. Three times a year, I get to see these kids bring down the house at an all-ages show, open to the public. This show was no exception: The Polka-Dots have added a new member and grown into their identity as a band. Coroner Stone brought the metal and the head-banging. Death By Thumb continued to raise the bar on stage presence. Fairytale Stereotypes blew away the crowd with a gorgeous original number.

These bands, and all the other who played at the show, highlight what talented teachers and a focused non-profit can achieve with the support of dedicated community. If you get a chance, go see one of the Ethos showcases and, if you have the means, help support their mission!
