USPS says it’s not implementing Trump’s anti-mail voting order, for now

The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) confirmed it is following a pair of court orders blocking it from implementing President Donald Trump’s anti-mail voting executive order.  “The Postal Service is abiding by these injunctions, which are also currently under appeal,” Postmaster General David Steiner and Amber McReynolds, chairwoman of the USPS board of governors, wrote Monday in a letter to Senate Democrats obtained by Democracy Docket. The USPS leaders were responding to concerns Democratic senators raised in a letter after Trump issued his executive order in March. That order directed the Postal Service to only deliver mail ballots if states handed over a list of preapproved voters. The senators later reiterated their concerns after USPS published a proposed rule to execute the order in June.  Trump’s directive also mandated USPS to develop secure ballot envelopes with unique barcodes for tracking and utilize them ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. USPS’s letter contends that, even though the agency proposed the rule in response to the executive order, the changes themselves would be “consistent with the Postal Service’s existing — and longstanding — recommended best practices.” 

Good news: The USPS won’t be implementing the Trump Regime’s highly un-American executive order targeting vote-by-mail (EO 14399).

with the price of stamps going up again i feel the need to remind everyone (in the US) that the 'forever' part of a forever stamp means FOREVER. you can use it even if the price of that stamp is an old price.

I just had a bizarre interaction at the post office. I went there and asked if they had any passport renewal forms and the lady suddenly went quiet, looked around anxiously, and then mouthed silently "yes I do" and gestured for me to follow her to the side. Once there she wordlessly handed me the papers and then quickly left like it was a shady interaction and I was like ???? Why is it a secret???

Summary of the July 2026 USPS changes

Ground Advantage pricing changes for lightweight shipments

...Beginning July 12th, all Ground Advantage shipments under 1 pound will cost the same within a given zone, regardless of their exact weight in ounces.

<1 lb shipments to rural ZIP codes will also see rate increases

With the new USPS rate structure, all packages under 1 pound shipped to specific ZIP Codes (generally in rural or suburban areas) will also now be charged the 15.99 oz rate...

For example: When shipping to a rural destination, shipping a 2 oz package now costs the same as a 15.99 oz package.

Changes to the overweight/oversize fees

Effective July 12, 2026, USPS is increasing their overweight/oversize fee to $200...

...Previously, items caught and returned to the mailer at the point of entry were exempt from the fee. Under the new rule, all overweight or oversize items found anywhere in the Postal network will be assessed the $200 fee. In most cases, the fee will be automatically billed to the shipper through Carrier Adjustments. Otherwise, payment must be made before USPS releases the package.

USPS has also clarified that any package flagged as oversize/overweight will have its rate corrected to 70 lb in addition to being assessed the $200 fee
