Michel Giacometti (Ajaccio - Corsica, 1929 - Faro - Portugal, 1990) was an ethnographer who centered his work in traditional music/songs, recording folk music across Portugal. He founded the Arquivos Sonoros Portugueses (Portuguese Sound Archives) in 1960. His legacy comprises LP’s, a Songbook (Cancioneiro Popular Português), and a TV series entitled Povo que Canta broadcasted by RTP, the national television channel, from 1970 to 1973.
