since you mentioned truce at bakura to culturevulture, I must say I didn't like the thing with Gaeriel in that book. Luke had way too many love interests in EU to be honest. Not because I'm against it, that boy has a big heart and he deserves to be loved BUT most of those love interests felt forced were bland like "we have a good looking charismatic male protagonist he must have a love interest in every book because he's a maaaan"
Oh, I agree. I haven’t read most of the books with Luke’s various EU love interests (yet, I’ll get to a lot of them I think), but I agree. Too many, and then a ton of them get killed off, don’t they?
His blue eyes flicked over the hangar bay, probably cataloging every enemy he had present. Her green eyes narrowed at the two Force users at the base of the ramp. She jabbed the blaster into the Jedi's blue tunic to prod him down it. Her clipped icy tone rang throughout the hangar bay. "I am the Emperor's Hand. Luke Skywalker is my prisoner and I will present him alive to the Emperor." They stopped in front of the other Force users. "Am I correct in assuming you are my ride to Byss?"
What does this mean? It means I met my deadline despite car trouble. My aim is to post a chapter on Friday at AO3. If you'd prefer to read it on FF.net, those posts will go up on Saturdays. Updating the Library with the whole story will happen once all the edits are done.
FanFic Friday: Star Wars My Home Is You Chapter Six
Star Wars: My Home Is You AO3 | FF.net
This week has been so bizarre; it actually made Friday feel like a Monday complete with back to work. So much for remembering to do my uploads before I leave for work. But now we get to see just what Mara thinks of what they found?
“Oh, but I didn’t even show you the master bedroom suite!” Tarask twisted out of Mara’s grasp right in front of the turbolift.
“That’s fine, I’ll look at it while he’s in his trance. We’ll see you again before we leave.” Mara smiled, the pleasant one she usually reserved for one of Karrde’s compliments, because this woman was not the one responsible for Luke’s shock and pain. And set her body between Tarask and the doorway back to the parlor.
Tarask nodded with a slight frown. “Very well. Anyone at the front desk can escort you to my office. I’ll leave word with them.”
Mara heaved a sigh once the turbolift headed down. She didn’t know what to do now. What she wanted to do was shake the dead Jedi who had decided Luke’s past was off-limits to him until their teeth fell out. They were supposed to be better than the Emperor who stole her past! His mentors hurt him and never answered for it but they were dead and out of her reach. Thoughts like that wouldn’t help Luke, and she had to help him now. She shielded her thoughts up tight.
Back to the Byss AU this week. Luke has gotten himself in trouble and this is how Mara finds out about it.
Mara’s snug bunk held them both without reality-based discomfort, but the second occupant found its size a fascinating topic for discussion. Luke Skywalker propped himself above her. “You wouldn’t lose that much floor space,” he assured her with good-humored intent. “Han didn’t when he installed a double bunk for him and Leia on the Falcon.”
She ran her fingers along the faint scars on his face and he leaned into her touch. His blue eyes darkened, but they remained open. “I can’t believe you’re talking about ship mods right now,” she said.
His smile was so broad and warm. “I can help fix the ship. I’m not good with words in situations like this.”
Her hand slid into his thick hair. “What about a demonstration?”
They moved together, her breasts against the planes of his chest, her legs wrapped around his hips, their lips finally, finally pressing together—
An electric jolt sent Mara out of the bunk for the deck plate under it. Luckily, she had picked the bottom one closest to the cockpit, so she didn’t have far to land. One blink, then she was back on her feet and tearing into the bunk’s bedding, looking for the loose wiring that must have shocked her. The autochef didn’t work, the deck hiding a smuggling compartment did not fit back into place properly and tripped her, and now faulty wiring! The dream had just gotten to the good part! She had no idea who Karrde had assigned to maintain this ship but when she caught up with them, they would be rebuilding it under her supervision.
Sorry about missing last week. I left town for the weekend so I spent the whole week after work doing house chores that I’d normally do over the weekend and forgot about scheduling a post. I love you peeps, but I’m also not accessing tumblr while I’m at my paying job since it’s my most active writing time right now. So if Nate doesn’t blow me away, I’ll probably post another tidbit to make up for last week.
This week for your reading pleasure, I’m giving you a bit from Star Wars: My Home Is You (aka Byss AU). Luke and Mara talk about Hoth.
“Abandon?” Her smile felt wicked. “Karrde or your sister will probably pay you to drag me off because I’m taking the committee to drop in the nearest black hole. Actually, I should find out who’s supposed to ratify the contract, black hole the committee, and tell them everything has been worked out.”
He grinned. “They’ll be missed.”
“Small price to pay for normalized shipping.”
“How about disappearing them somewhere where they won’t be crushed to death? Echo Base on Hoth is in mostly one piece.”
“Weren’t you almost eaten on Hoth? Or was that something the entertainment industry dreamed up?”
“They didn’t exaggerate it that much. One wampa not two and it was eating my tauntaun instead of fighting over me when I got my lightsaber and cut myself free. I don’t know if I even killed it when I was getting away. Han said the finding me delirious in the snow scene was the most accurate thing he’s seen in all the stupid holodramas about me. I guess they didn’t feel the need to improve that.”
“What did the committee do to you that makes you want to put them on an ice-covered rock where you almost died?”
I actually started Rescue the Farmboy AU first, inspired by a comment left at Tor.com (book publishers). Luke makes it to the Imperial Academy, sets off alarms, shenanigans ensue, and Vader and Palpatine learn about Luke’s existence far earlier than Obi-Wan or Yoda wanted. @fialleril’s Double Agent Vader series made me realize that a subversive Vader is my jam, but those ramifications are further ahead. Like ESB and ROTJ ahead.
The Falcon reached the Graveyard formerly known as Alderaan before the paying job decided to lock down YouTube accesses. By the time they relented that decision, I was fully committed to the Byss AU. Hopefully once I get those edits and the work I’m doing to the Library back up, I can get back to this story.
Vader stopped in front of the captain. “Where is the Senator?”
“Princess Leia is not aboard for this voyage. This is our passenger, Luke Skywalker of Tatooine.” The captain gestured at the young man standing next to him.
Skywalker! Vader’s head jerked back. He had thought the boy was the Emperor’s prisoner or dead by now after he had seen Palpatine’s orders on the Academy record. But here Luke Skywalker was, having evaded capture until now.
He studied the boy best he could through the lenses of his mask that tinted the universe red. Luke’s hair was fair, probably blond like his had been before the fires of Mustafar. The roundness of Luke’s face suggested Padmé’s, but the cleft in the boy’s chin matched his. And the Force radiated from Luke like he was another sun in the sky.
But it couldn’t be true!
“Skywalker,” Vader said because he had to say something in front of these witnesses. The boy straightened his shoulders. “How did you gain passage on the Senator of Alderaan’s personal counselor vessel?”
Luke blinked. “She offered it to me, sir. So I could go home while she discovered why I was treated like a criminal for enlisting.”
“Like a criminal?”
“The Academy locked me up and then stormtroopers came after me.” Luke snapped his mouth shut. His indignation over the treatment blazed in the Force.
“And you turned to the Senator of Alderaan for assistance.”
“She wasn’t appointed by the Hutts.”
Vader blinked behind his mask. That… that was a Padmé response: factually accurate and delivered without a trace of sarcasm so the cut was all the sharper. But she was dead, gone to keep him alive and he had watched the HoloNet footage of her funeral and that of their unspoken of but obvious child.
