Just outed myself on a bass players' forum as using they pronouns - now I'm waiting to see whether they're shitheels about it. Some of them have already proved to be celebrity-abuser apologists and "PC"-haters so wish me luck.

In the aftermath of the Great Recession, there has been a widespread call for reform of the Economic and Monetary Union (EMU), as it became clear that its current institutional architecture lacks an automatic stabilisation mechanism to prevent and mitigate the effects of economic shocks. A European unemployment benefits scheme (EUBS) has long been discussed as one potential stabilisation mechanism. In this report, we explore this option in more depth.

Proposte per un sussidio di disoccupazione Ue
Un sussidio europeo sarebbe non solo uno strumento di assicurazione contro i rischi associati a shock asimmetrici, ma anche uno strumento di solidarietà tra i diversi Stati Membri

EUBS2014 Conference Visit
The European Underwater and Baromedical Society (EUBS) conference is an annual meeting providing an opportunity for continuing professional development in the field of hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy. It also offers a unique opportunity to network and share ideas with European colleagues and this, the 40th such meeting, was no exception.
In September we sent a team of DDRC Healthcare staff out to Wiesbaden, Germany, this year’s host city of the annual EUBS Scientific Meeting. Our Senior Clinical Nurse, Ali Bishop, attended the event and brought back this report.
Senior Clinical Nurse, Ali Bishop
"The meeting ran across 4 days, covering topics including decompression illness (DCI) and bubbles, prolonged diving, breath-hold diving, cognitive function, hyperbaric therapy and glucose levels, and intensive care in hyperbaric chambers.
The two invited speakers were Neil Hampson and Stephen Thom and they gave engaging presentations on carbon monoxide poisoning and stem cells respectively. The conference was also supported by a number of poster presentations.
The German organising team ensured we were kept busy with a schedule of talks that ran from 8.30am to 5pm, followed with social events each evening. The Lord Mayor of Wiesbaden kindly supported our welcome evening at the Town Hall.
One of the most interesting sessions of the meeting was the presentations on critical care in a hyperbaric facility. This generated some useful discussion regarding facilities and equipment. On the Saturday afternoon we used the last of our energy to get the train back to Frankfurt and fly home."

DDRC in Poland - EUBS 2011
In August a contingent from DDRC attended the 37th Annual Scientific Meeting of the European Uunderwater and Baromedical Society (EUBS) in Gdansk, Poland. Members of the DDRC team who attended the conference were Gary Smerdon - Research Director, Ali Bishop - Senior Nurse, Pete Atkey - Operations Director, Mihaela Ignatescu - Senior Hyperbaric Physician and Julia Pepper (Dentist).
Ali presented results from her Masters degree looking at outcomes for patients with foot ulcers due to diabetes treated with hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Julia presented a study concerning patients with a history of head and neck cancer who had been referred to DDRC for hyperbaric oxygen therapy for treatment of the long term effects of radiotherapy. The presentations were well received and the meeting was very useful for those who attended.
Next year the meeting will be held in Budapest...
