what if you were eugene morrow and the man you loved loved the stars more than you
Yk something I've always wondered about since I first watched Gattaca (and was left with a huge hyperfixation) was how much blood Eugene had to or had given Vincent.
Like, yeah, he's got like demigod genes and all that but he's still a human and as far as I know there's like a 8-12 weeks rest if you wanna extract a bag of blood. And from what I'm reading around, if you overdo it you most likely start suffering from severe anemia, and do organ failure, and so death if not treated ig.
We can't really tell how much Eugene did or the frequency, I'm not even too sure how much Vincent really needed to bypass Gattaca's security systems and be able to disguise as a valid tbh.
I do have seen some posts on Reddit pointing out the fact Eugene has needle scars from how often he had to extract blood either way, so that's something...
Anyway, just wanted to say that I've had long headcanoned that Eugene's health wasn't really thaaat great after he became Vincent's donor because he needed to push his body physically in a whole different level and I bet he was a bit of a workaholic since he'd be bored as hell alone at home, wanting to feel useful and make sure Vincent had emergency supplies too. Also let's not even mention the fact he gathered enough samples for 2 lifetimes as he mentioned before Vincent left to the space...
So yeah, I always like to imagine he developed some health issues (and that he has chronic pains due to the car "accident" but that's another topic) although he tried his best to hide/ignore it! Also some kind of chronic fatigue too, since aside from a clear depression he's overexerting his body by extracting so much blood and collecting all kinds of samples for Vincent too :/
