for someone who is so used to following a fixed set of rules, boxed up in rigid constraints of what is right and wrong, there are certain things yifan would never imagine himself doing and in this case — playing truant. it’s not because he does not have the courage to do it, he simply thinks of it as wrong and yifan never likes making mistakes. besides, he actually enjoys classes since he does breeze through them without much struggle. so, one might ask, why exactly is he standing by the school gate alone when he’s supposed to be in biology class?
if not for hali’s countless attempts at convincing him to skip classes with her, he wouldn’t have even entertained the thought of it, let alone agree to go out at sea in the middle of the day, during school hours, no less. he wasn’t sure why he agreed, having never done anything like that before— ok, maybe once or twice but to go out at sea? definitely a first. he blames it on the puppy dog eyes she used on him (he’s gets rather weak when it comes to cute things... especially cute girls) and her undying persistence that was getting a little too hard to reject. a part of him wonders, could it be that he actually liked hanging around her? or does he maybe... like her? it’s a thought he doesn’t dwell on, believing that he has more “important” things to worry about, like whether or not they will get caught, or whether he will get caught before she even arrives.
his worries dissipates when the petite girl rolls up to his side, his lips unknowingly curving into a big smile at the sight of her. “hey,” he greets, a hand reaching up to rub the back of his neck (shyly?) before gesturing towards the direction of the sea. “I still don’t think this is a good idea but I know you’re not gonna give it up so,” he shrugs in defeat, “let’s go.”
