NPC: Eva Rodis
Eva Rodis is a female tiefling Inquisitor of Abadar. 12 years ago, an 8 year-old tiefling waif was discovered stowing away on a Chelish ship bound for Reeftide. The captain seized the child as his own and brought her to Reeftide as his slave, expecting to sell her to Lady Morgain. When the ship docked and the captain approached the Lady with his offer, she was so contemptuous of the captain's high-handed manner that she ordered his ship burned and he taken as her slave. In the confusion, Eva escaped and fled into the village. She took refuge for the first three days in the smithy of Jathim Ironthane, using all her prowess from a life on the streets to remain unnoticed by the preoccupied dwarf while she pilfered small needful things from his house. When Jathim finally discovered her, he felt the decades-buried instincts of dwarven fatherhood come to him. So he cuffed her for stealing. Jathim took Eva in as a sort of adopted daughter, and foremost among his lessons was observance of the law and the good of society. When she turned 16, Eva left Reeftide to study with a cleric friend of Jathim's in the powerful Temple of Abadar in Korvosa. A mere two years later, she returned to Reeftide, and it is rumored that she was judged unsuitable for the priesthood. Ignoring the rumors, Eva joined the town watch and was quickly promoted to Sergeant. During the last two years she has proven her effectiveness at keeping the law to the people of Reeftide, though her methods are quite unconventional. Since becoming Sergeant, she has been a thorn in the side of Guard Captain Bogoruuk, often asking him pointed questions about his skewed interpretation of the law, and double-checking tax collection records and accounts ledgers for "errors". Though usually quiet, one cannot help but notice the presence of Eva in the room (unless she wishes to go unnoticed, of course). One gets the strong impression that her dimly-glowing red eyes see everything, that she never forgets a misdeed, and that she is building a list of ne'er-do-wells to pay nighttime visits to (and not in a way they'll enjoy).
