Cassie didn’t often get nervous for dates (was this even a proper date?) but she was today. Something about Evan had her feeling unsure of herself. It was different when they were in her territory, in her club and her champagne room. Outside work though he was in charge, he was smart and important plus famous, he’d seen much more than she had, and what even were you supposed to say to someone impressive like that? She checked her phone while she waited, texted Nadia ‘what do people talk about on not hidden, very public dates?’ but the reply would come too late because he was walking through the door. Once she noticed, Cassie tucked her phone away and sat up straighter, “Hey,” She wanted to say more, be witty, but nerves got the better of her and she couldn’t think of it.
