THE FALLEN
(From top to bottom: HABIT, Vinnie, Evan, Jeff)
I made two versions of this drawing, one with annotations representing each character, and one without. Also it is 2AM, I should sleep-
I’m right here (Evan x Vinny)
It's been 7 months since Vinny's last seen Evan, HABIT still controls his dear friend and the complexion of the host always seemed to be more sickly looking then the last time. Evan's skin grew paler as time went on, dark circles taking form under his eyes, he always seemed weary even in HABIT's lively state. It worried Vinny, this wasn't normal, it wasn't normal for anyone to look like that. But he couldn't have done anything about it, HABIT was too powerful and Vinny was sure if he angered HABIT the consequences would be dire. Deciding not to risk it, Vinny left it alone and tried to make whatever task he was instructed with ease for the body of his beloved friend. If he could help in anyway then this was surely it.
The atmosphere was off, of course being trapped in a house with a monster would feel off to anyone with sense, this felt different. Something was tugging at Vinny's heart, something he couldn't quite name or understand. He stayed inside his room as HABIT paraded around muttering things that didn't make sense or just telling some sort of inside joke only he understood, Vinny wouldn't leave without direct permission from the monster seeing as he'd get beat for it. Everything was running rather smoothly until a rather loud thump was heard, it sounded like a body hitting the floor quite loudly. Vinny hated how he recognized it so easily, as if it was something you're suppose to hear, like he was listening to a barking dog. What bothered Vinny the most was why that sound had been made.
Surely if HABIT wanted something, maybe another victim, he'd call Vin to drag another damned soul to be slaughtered. But that wasn't the case, all day HABIT hadn't asked Vinny a single thing, not to film or to get someone or to solve something, nothing. Some days it was like this, those were rare since whatever it was HABIT was doing involved Vinny so heavily, it was the emotions swelling inside himself and how different the tone of the house shifted. Deciding to risk the chance of his life, Vinny ventured outside of his room, after all he always had to investigate. Peeking his head out slowly, he checked his surroundings, everything seemed in place but it was too quiet, HABIT would surely never leave it this silent unless he were away. Hope growing in the damaged heart of Vinny, he felt some confidence come out as he examined the walls and floor, spotting an open doorway that was closed last he checked. Approaching slowly, Vinny made sure his footsteps were soundless as he passed into the room, eyes seeing a pair of shoes. He pressed forward and took in the full sight before him. HABIT or Evan was sprawled on the ground, eyes closed and body limp. At first glance it appeared that maybe Evan had died, maybe HABIT killed him for whatever reason he had.
Upon further inspection, the deep rise and fall of the chest told Vinny otherwise. He swallowed his fear and rising panic, the sound of shallow breathing filling up the silence in the room. HABIT didn't sleep, he didn't need sleep, finally this was Evan. His Evan. Rushing to his friends side he gently shook the other, whispering urgently for him to wake up. Vin didn't get a reaction, just the sound of breathing as Evan slept. Fixing Evan into a more comfortable position, Vinny decided to watch, maybe soon he'd wake up and Vinny wouldn't be so alone anymore. He knew Evan would be confused about the events and everything that's happened seeing as he was under HABIT's control for a long period of time. It just didn't seem right to leave him like that. Sitting down and getting himself comfortable, Vinny decided to wait but after a few hours pass, he couldn't help but close his eyes and sleep as well.
Stretching, Vinny opened his eyes, done with his little nap. Scanning around he just saw Evan where he had been left, but he looked a little more peaceful, maybe he was getting better on his own, happiness pulsed throughout his being. The thought of Evan and him back together again, with both of them being okay, was so overwhelming it gave the emotion of happiness. An emotion he's missed feeling and often craved that feeling a lot being stuck up in this hell house, but he wouldn't have to do it alone anymore, as soon as Evan would wake up anyway. He moved around just a bit, stretching out his stiff muscles from the nap he'd took and peered over Evan. His breathing quieted down, he generally seemed to just be enjoying a peaceful sleep, but whether that was true or not, Vinny couldn't tell. A groan escaped Evan's lips as his brows knitted together, slowly curling in on himself, looked as if he was finally coming around. Speaking softly and in a hush Vinny greeted him "Hey Ev."
It took a moment but after what felt like hours, Evan opened his eyes. He was first met with Vinny, his gaze scanning his friends face before slowly moving across the room. Evan seemed to be looking at it for the first time or maybe the first time in a long time, after Evan was satisfied by no possible threats in the area his gaze shifted back to Vinny. Relief seemed to glow in his dull eyes, he opened his mouth to speak but his voice sounded raspy and too forced, Evan winced. Offering him a hand, Vin pulled him to his feet then with a faint smile asked if Evan needed some water. With a frantic nod, one hand clutching his throat and the other cradling his stomach, Evan seemed to be in pain. Making quick work Vin grabbed a water bottle or two and whatever type of food he could find and came back to Evan, handing him the supplies. Snatching the water, Evan wasted no time in taking the cap off and drinking it, downing the whole thing with wasting no drop. Vinny was a little concerned but didn't question it as his friend greedily ate the food he had brought, once finished with everything Evan mumbled a small thanks in return. Vin curtly nodded, saying it was nothing, questions and curiosity bubbling up inside of him.
"You okay there, brother?" Vinny asked, pure affection pooling in his eyes. It felt like years since someone's looked at him like that, memories flooded into his mind, memories of Steph and their child, of Jeff, of countless victims that had fallen at his hands. Glancing down, it looked like they were covered in blood. Dark, crimson taunted him. It looked like it was everywhere, pushing past Vinny and making a bee-line for the bathroom, Evan scrubbed his hands as hard as he could. None of it came off, the tortured cries and begging was ringing in his ear and there was Vinny, looking startled and confused by the door frame just watching. Vinny couldn't see the blood or hear the pleading for mercy, all that he saw was Evan scrubbing his skin off in the sink as his breathing became labored. Walking beside his old friend, Vinny turned the water off and lightly put his hands over Evan's, willing him to stop. Evan looked up, eyes wide and terrorized, they yielded some pain indescribable. It broke his heart to see someone he cared so deeply for, hurt so much.
"Can't you hear them..." Evan started, lowering his head and forcing his eyes to stay clear. His voice wavering as emotions strong as currents swept through him.
"Hear what Ev?" Vinny responded, guiding Evan away from the sink and out the bathroom. Evan wasn't ever this needy, he was so independent and strong, never had Vinny had to guide him. Concern fluttered around in his chest, what did HABIT make Evan do? What did Evan remember? Walking back towards the bedroom, Evan stopped by one room in particular. His gaze slowly drifted from the floor to the open room, looking at its contents.
"I remember that room..." Without any indication of what he was doing Evan staggered in there. Vinny hopelessly followed, watching as his friend scanned the bedroom. He stared at the bed, Vinny knew what Evan was talking about now, the memory of Mark entering his mind and grief pounded in his heart. "He was here.. A-And you were right there." Evan hastily pointed across from where the bed stood, anger and terror coating his words and actions. "And I came in," Retracing his actions that night Evan let his weight change from each leg as he tried to calm himself. Each movement growing more frantic, his voice churning with fear and rage. Stopping all at once, Evan's eyes came back to Vinny's. They were dull, tears brimming at the edges as Evan's voice lost all emotion. "I killed him."
There was no way Vinny could sugar coat this, slowly he confirmed what Evan was saying. "Yeah, you did." His tone was sympathetic and gentle, prompting for his friend to calm down. Taking a step closer to Evan, he grabbed the others hand and led him out of the room, making sure he closed the door. Leading him to the bed Vinny motioned for Evan to sit down and, reluctantly, he did. Vinny sat down next to him, throwing his arm around Evan's shoulder and almost immediately Evan let his head rest against Vinny's shoulder. He was struggling to keep his tears in, Vinny assumed that wasn't the only flashback Evan was getting. He hated seeing Evan like this, it broke his heart, he didn't know what to do or how to help. Moving his hand to rest on Ev's back, Vinny made small circular motions as to try to help. It seemed to work as slowly Evan's body relaxed, a deep and heavy sigh falling from his lips and for once he looked small. Not a good sign.
Shakily, with a voice so soft and so tiny Vinny hardly heard, Evan spoke. "I'm sorry I put you through this." Shaking his head hastily, Vinny quickly denied the comment.
"This isn't your fault at all, you shouldn't apologize. You called this shit out in the beginning and I should've listened, I'm the one who's sorry." His tone was firm, eyes challenging Evan to try and shift the blame. The body count and this new found blame would ruin Evan no question, how could he just sit back and allow all that? If anyone was to blame, Vinny thought, it'd be me.
Evan gave no objection, continuing to rest his head on the others shoulder. He felt like a child clinging helplessly to a mother but he couldn't help it, inside was a raging storm, a ticking time bomb waiting to explode. There were too many broken pieces to put back together, he was far too damaged, for once he allowed his strong and upbeat facade to break. Evan curled into Vinny, arms hanging loosely around him, pressing his face into the fabric of his shirt. And he cried. Shoulders hunched, body rocking with every silent sob, heart pouring out, kind of cry. There wasn't any way he could've kept this too himself for any longer, it felt like he'd explode if he did. He was helpless, a puppet on a pair of strings. Vinny was surprised, never had he seen Evan this upset. Sure, when he found the body of his dead friend but this, this was something far worse. Seeing his friend so hurt brought tears to his eyes too, wrapping Evan in a protective embrace, Vinny was careful with his emotions. The wall he built for himself was breaking but he couldn't break down now, not when Evan needed him.
Vinny sniffled, wiping a few stray tears and cradled Evan. It was his turn to be the strong one, for countless times Evan had played that card and helped Vinny and everyone out. The thing with being the strong one is you never receive help, finally he realized that. All this time, all these years, Evan must've been dealing with HABIT. Though he never spoke a word, not when everyone he loved started dying, not when he started hurting the people he loved, he stayed strong and focused on Vinny instead. Suddenly feeling guilt, Vinny stroked Evan's hair and shushed him. Tucking him close, Vin started to rock his body along with Evan's, humming some melody he remembered his mom singing to him ages ago. It seemed to work, or at least help a little. The violent shaking that rushed through Evan's body simmered down to a shiver, his fists were balled into then hem of Viny's shirt and showed no sign in letting go, face nestled into his chest. Though Evan wouldn't admit it, he liked feeling protected for once, the pressure to protect everyone was lifted, it felt easier to breath and to think. With a racing heart and shaky breaths, he willed himself to calm down. The steady drumming of Vinny's heart told him that they were both okay, Vinny was alive and well, the rise and fall of his chest and the even breathing helped him to control his own. The rhythmic strokes of his hair left him feeling content and blocked all the dark thoughts out of his mind, he felt centered and calm again. With a sudden realization Evan saw that he managed to squirm into Vinny's lap, though it felt perfect there, embarrassment flooded his heart. How could he have been so weak? Especially in front of Vinny, he'd always wanted to keep the impression that he didn't need help, that he was strong despite his size, that he could be relied on, that he wasn't as useless as he felt. The warmth he felt around him seemed to soothe these troubling thoughts too, Vinny's caring aura melting into Evan's desperate state and making everything seem a bit better then it actually was. Some new emotions seemed to overwhelm him, confused and conflicted with all these feelings surging together like a strong current, Evan squeezed his eyes shut and tried to block everything out and solely focused on nothing but Vinny.
Time stretched as Evan regained his composure but Vinny kept silent, he kept Evan close and allowed him to seek refuge against himself for however long he needed. Evan became highly aware of how close the two had come, chest to chest, hip to hip, arms around the waist, and his legs had somehow wrapped themself right around Vinny's hips. A different type of emotion started to take form in his heart, the beating of his own heart starting to beat wildly like an out of control drum. Evan pushed those emotions down, keeping them under lock and key as he stayed quiet, seeking cover from whatever other feelings decided to surface. He did feel protected and probably the most comfortable he's been in a long time, his body was exhausted from the breakdown and was still weak due to all the malnourishment. Gripping him tightly like unforgiving claws he felt the tiredness swirl and infect his mind, fighting to keep his eyes awake he tried to stay up but the chore was too much and despite his best efforts, Evan fell asleep on Vinny. The kind gestures of affection and the sweet atmosphere didn't help either, after some time Vinny took notice of the unusual stillness of his friend, muttering his name as quietly as he could to not disrupt the peaceful air they'd created. Receiving no response, Vinny found the sleeping form quite amusing, the big strong Evan was currently curled to him and nuzzling close as if nursing a kit, Though his concern was growing and anxiety stirring inside of him, the hurt of seeing Evan so broken still stung like a fresh cut. The memory fresh in his mind, he was positive that this would be forever etched into his head like a curse. Getting a spot on the bed, Vinny placed Evan down and made sure he was as comfortable as he could possibly be, when he tried to pull away he found that Evan had a dead grip on his shirt and wouldn't let go. The sight was pretty cute in Vinny's opinion, a tiny grin blossoming and graced his features, submitting himself to the grip of his friend, Vinny took his rightful place by his side. Seeking out that lovely warmth, sure enough Evan found his way back to Vinny's side and was rewarded by those strong arms embracing him yet again.
Vinny's emotional state thrived, before allowing him the gift of sleep. Once awoken he came face to face with Evan, his expression was completely tranquil. His eyes were closed but with the close proximity he could clearly see those long and beautiful lashes, his strong jaw and cheekbones, the fading tannish skin, and those parted lips just begging to be kissed. Vinny memorized the details of the others face, enjoying the gracious moment he was given before it was ripped from his hands. Almost as he came back to reality, Evan's eyes had opened to reveal those breathtakingly observant orbs and keep Vinny stunned. Evan didn't know what happened, but his heart gave a tremendous 'thump' and before he knew it his lips were crashing into Vinny's, pressing himself close to the other like his life depended on it. It took a moment or two before it registered in Vinny's mind what just happened but he found himself kissing back just as hard, trying to pull Evan even closer. Fingers locking in hair, legs getting tangled together, shirts growing wrinkled as they eagerly fought for dominance in their heated kiss. Vinny's hands grappling at Evan's waist and hoisted him on top, the said male's legs draped around Vin's hips and that masculine body slouched over to make sure their lips never parted. Evan's hands were hooking onto whatever they could, coursing through Vinny's messy bedhead before reluctantly he moved back a bit, letting his forehead rest against the others.
"Sorry, I don't know what came over me." Face flushing, Evan felt compelled to connect their lips once more, he found Vinny's breathless state almost irresistible. He moved to dismount but found the hands around his waist keeping him glue to the spot, looking down he saw a bright grin adorning the others features.
"Hey it's okay, I kinda liked it anyways." Vinny trailed off, his cheekbones dusting to a light pink hue as he released his hold on Evan. They both stayed like that, close and flustered at what just took place. That powerful feeling coaxing both of them, Evan especially. He mentally cursed himself at being at a loss for words, he usually never was, Vinny merely found it cute that Evan was all hot and bothered. His blush grew at the passing minute, settling for resting his body against Vin's in an attempt to hide his own face. Chest rumbling with lighthearted laughter, Vinny pressed a kiss to the top of Evan's head, heart beat soaring. "Cute."
